Weatherflow Wind Meter - the "Vane Project"

I’m interested.

My only complaint with what I have now is it seems the weather flow meter needs to be pretty close to the phone to connect.

This looks slick.

It has two Bluetooth power settings, have you tried the higher power setting? It’s on low by default.

I have also had issues with the pairing process when it’s too far away... likes to be close for that.

It does impact battery life, but I have had good luck up to 100’ with mine and an iPhone XS Plus, on the higher setting. You may also have environmental differences from my experience... but worth a try.

Scarlet tech, wireless blutooth anemometer, vector and intensity updated every 3seconds. Works with free Android or Iphone app, set it anywhere within 100 yards.
Nothing better on the planet.

That's cool!
One of my criteria was finding something slightly more portable and integration with Strelok Pro. One-third the price helps the pocketbook too. :)

I have not tried that.

How does a guy change it??

Well, after shooting comp for 40years, I think you would need at least 3 for a 100yd BR match. One would tell you something, but I've never shot at a range that the conditions were the same all the way to the target. What is the delay from the indicator to you? Remember, the indicator is showing what has already happened.
It is interesting, but I would like more info.

It's pretty much real time. The lag is less than a second with the Weatherflow. Same could be said for the flags.

I agree with you in that you would need multiple to get a complete picture all the way down range (these units aren't capable of a multi-meter BT connection anyway), but I have found that in conjunction with a couple flags, you can get a much more accurate read than without, primarily due to the fact it's feeding data into an app like Strelok Pro which takes the guess work out of variables like bullet dynamics and compensates for temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure... all of which are being fed by the Weatherflow.

I fall into the belief that learning to read the flags with the information this setup provides reduces the learning curve dramatically - so when you compete in an event where the wind meters are forbidden, you're that much better at reading the flags. Flags are an artform in and of themselves... anything I can do to improve that skill along the way, I'll gladly accept.

Sure beats licking your index finger and holding it in the air.

Parts are starting to roll in... enough to make a few. Odds and ends on backorder (probably on a slow boat from China) I refuse to pay $15 for the exact shoulder bolt through Amazon when I can get a dozen for that through other, although slower means. So bear with me.

I will most likely be able to start the fab process this weekend, for at least the first few.

I don't want to take any monetary commitments from anyone until I can get the process down and have a few ready to ship - which will be done through a classified I will link here when ready. I do appreciate the PMs/offers to pay in advance, but I would prefer if we waited.

I have never done anything like this prior to this "adventure" - I'm just a guy with a shop who wanted a better solution for a vane... if I can get a few out there into the community, all the better... sounds like fun!

THANKS

I have a copy of "WindReader" as ALL you should too!

It has improved my wind scores a great deal.

WindReader plus this attachment will make a big difference for me ,especially as I bought the WindReader strictly to indicate Density Altitude. But now, the wind direction is available as well as speed!!!

I have been waiting for a good day to test the riser on the vane to see if it helps reduce turbulence for the vane behind the Weatherflow... Not that it wasn't fine without it, it just seemed to create an unnecessary wobble here and there. The riser seems to make a difference.
