WEATHERBY SCOPE , HELP ID

Never saw a scope with both wind&elv on top side together. Must have lived a sheltered life, never noticed one of these. Lady I'm helping said this was his prize deer rifle, old school Springfield action work, Buehler rings and mounts, big money for the day. Old scope just clear as can be, just wondering if they were any good, thanks JohnIMG_20200517_135209093.jpg

Most Weatherby scopes were made in Japan. A few were made in Germany. I believe the pictured scope was made in Germany-the Imperial line. You might do a search as I've been told the elevation and horizontal adjustment is made with 1 knob and the other was focus. I might have a scope book at my other shop. If I remember I will look it up tomorrow.

An old post on the same subject.

"FYI, the manufacturer of the Weatherby "Imperial" and "Imperial Variable" scopes was Hertel & Reuss.

What I could find out about it is that Hertel & Reuss was a German company based in Kassel, which produced different optical instruments (microscopes, telescopic sights, binoculars). Hertel & Reuss existed from 1927 to 1995, when it finally became insolvent and was incorporated into another company. It's still known under the same name and they make opera glasses:

Looks like they still make good stuff.

From what I found in the Weatherby book, Roy Weatherby went to 4 different optics companies in 1953: "Of these four, [Roy] was most impressed with Hertel & Reuss, which had an excellent reputation as one of the finest optical companies in Germany."

I believe they mfg for Weatherby through 1973.

Thank you, as usual, Butch you amaze me with the details that stick with you. As much as I was into guns in the fifty's and sixties this one got by me. Course in the fifties all I could afford was a 3/4", $9.95 weaver for my 22. Later on got me a K6 and I was in tall cotton... Thanks John

Butch, you are dead on as usual, but I may have to go back to school figure out how to use it, rifle is in a 257 Roberts and I was going to shoot it for group before I sold it. After fooling around with it I still don't have it figured out.... IMG_20200517_145007900.jpg

John, Yes sir, my first scope was a cheap Weaver that I installed on my Harrington& Richardson 165 Leastherneck. Didn't know anything about sighting it in, so I never hit the paper. Sure wish I had it back.
