Watch collectors?

Not a collector.

Over the years, I can recall a Timex something-or-other, a couple of Casio digitals (for sport and backcountry adventures), and a Raymond Weil that I currently have.

To be honest, the Casios were more accurate than anything I've ever used or heard of. Durable and functional little things. IIRC, the first one I got was ~40yrs ago and priced at something like ~$30. Nobody's collector's pieces, I'd think, but they worked well.

Wish I could've afforded to invest in a few Marantz 10B's years ago but they were high then and have only gone up. Those were and still are top of the line. Same with some collectable watches, fine guns and everything else that's high end.

There was one model Seiko that I used to believe was the best watch ever made. It had both analog and digital displays. When you pressed the "winder" the digital display would light up. I used to search for these watches on eBay when my previous one died, so I'd have the exact watch I wanted. Then one night I realized that presbyopia was catching up with me and I could no longer read the digital display at night without putting my glasses on. I now have a Timex where the whole dial lights up when you push in the "winder".

I must be some sort of barbarian!
I haven’t worn (or owned) a watch since cell phones came out. LOL

I was the same way for years. About 5-6 years ago the fog lifted and when my head came up I noticed that everyone around had their heads stuck in their cellphones. Put the cellphone in my pocket and a watch on my wrist. Won't go back. The majority of people in the world these days would be astonished to find out how much better the world looks in person than it looks through that cellphone screen they're staring at all the time.

I enjoy watches as well. Here's a couple of my daily drivers in rotation right now, Omega Speedmaster chrono Panda, Tudor BB58. Got a couple nice bulova, some seikos, citizen, even a timex in there too. Got my girl a couple nice Michele pieces, a cyma, a Gucci, and currently fixing up an old 10K Elgin ladies watch for her too. Also built a mechanical automatic for myself this last year, too.20210322_184727.jpg20210327_160220.jpg

Or, put the watch on leave the phone at home and reminisce about the good old days where no one knew where you were.

Wyler " Incaflex " prefered.

My Dad post one of his wrist, while plowing corn stubble under. The whole family joined hands to look for it, going over the whole field. But, it had been " turned under ".

I happened to find the watch some 25+ year later, when I caught a glint of shiny metal on the ground; while de-weeding the soybeans growing in the same field. Was tickled to see that it was the long lost watch, with the expansion pin on one end of the chain mail watch band missing ( reason it fell off his wrist ).

Wound up the watch, and it ran just great ! Sat it under a bowl turned upside down, and waited for Pop to sit down to supper.

He did, turned the bowl over; and covered his lower face with a hand in disbelief; when he instantly recognized his missing watch ! Got the band fixed @ minimal cost, and he wore the watch for many years thereafter.

My father passed away 34yr ago, and that watch is one of my treasured mommentoes of him ( along with lots of his Army Air Corps stuff from WWII ). Pop served as command pilot on B-25s, flying out of his base @ Gisonaccia, Corsica. 70 combat missions, then rotated state-side to served @ an instructor pilot until the Germans surrendered.

I do that some times. Takes me a while to notice. Wonder how the world ever lived without them. I was in my late twenties when I got my first brick. The original cell phone. Thought I was all that. Boy was I wrong. Especially as I sit here drooling over the picture of the Omega Speedmaster riot just posted.

I never wore a watch when working,or owned a cell phone. You would have to be,in the know, to get in touch.... just the way it was.

Once "retired",got my 1st cell phone. And started wearing watches. I like the chronos because of shooting disciplines. And am leaving the cell at home, more N more.

I’ve got one of these. The problem is I can’t find anyone to overhaul it and spiff it up.

Not watches, but I acquired 1/3 of my Dad‘s clock collection, which probably numbered over 300 items.

just about every wall in our house has clocks on them, plus to German Grandfather Clocks. About 90 % are in working order.

Here is my favorite set, five school house Octagon Drops that I mounted going down our spiral stairway. I designed this way to mount them and it looks great.90768EE7-D5BE-4487-B975-DBCCEE369D9E.jpeg
