When I was in my mid-teens, I was in the hospital for hernia surgery (for you younger folks, it wasn't day surgery back then), and my roommate was another mid-teen. We were at UW Hospital, which means it's a teaching hospital and has a lot of young nurses. We used to hit our call buttons at random times, just to see what would show up. Usually, it was one of the above. They eventually caught on to what we were doing and put a stop to it, but it sure was fun while it lasted. *sigh*

I saw one many years ago flying with the parachute deployed out the rear. I don't know if they didn't know or couldn't release it. They may have had to land with it.

It may have some emergency procedure to get the A/C back under control or just one of those "Oh, Shit" moments
