In AZ, it takes 9 mo in good weather to reserface and do the shoulder of 1 mile of road. In Oklahoma, they can complete a highway overpass in 3 months of summer before winter sets in. Who's milking what?

Several years ago in Houston, they did something I did not think was possible. The Pierce Elevated, a freeway bridge that ran the entire length of downtown Houston, was knocked down and replaced in under 90 days! The Houston Chronicle (local newspaper) said that the engineering / construction firm was able to collect on several million dollars in "incentive pay" for finishing early. It is amazing what can happen when you are faced with a deadline and either a bonus or a penalty attached to it!
