Just to clarify... these two editions of the no-longer-working Hornady Reloading Manual were books. Kindle versions purchased through Amazon. Some outfits have gone to online load data, sometimes free and sometimes paid. But these were books.
The good news is that today, after a couple of frustrating months, those two books are now working again. I ended up having to find and provide receipts to Hornady to prove that I had purchased them. But once I did that they were able to do whatever they needed to "turn them back on."
I still don't like that these "books" obviously have a link back to Hornady's servers - there is a login prompt inside. And once connected back to the mother ship, Hornady can turn off the data, expire the book, or turn access to the data back on. Those are characteristics you might expect to see with an online service, or perhaps an app... but not in a discrete book that has been downloaded to your device. I've purchased many hundreds of ebooks over the years and this is the first instance I've ever seen where the publisher had any access to my individual copy once it was downloaded.
Anyway, mine are now working again and so I'm happy. I'll amend my caution to... make sure you keep your receipts!
P. S. @jelenko, not sure what the '20' on that purchase page means. Maybe some kind of reward points? Dunno.
