Warming up a Charge Master Lite

I read yesterday that some suggest turning on your Charge Master Lite for 20-30 minutes prior to loading. I had never herd this, is this recommended?

I've heard that about my ChargeMaster 1500 as well, but have never actually tested it to see if a warm-up makes any difference in throwing or measuring accuracy.

A&D also publishes the same recommendation for their scales. In labs everywhere, its the second thing they warm up after the coffee maker.

I was planning on using my Lite yesterday, and I usually re-read the instruction manual, and it does say to let it warm up before calibrating the scale, doesn't say how long, but to let it warm up.

I have had my lite a number of years now. And I let it warm up every time before calibrating, periodically, I'll check my load on another scale and it's always spot on

I usually turn my 1500 on when I start sizing cases. By the time I get to throwing powder its been on a little while.

I normally turn it on as I start to get everything ready. I’m not a high volume loader so if I resize 20 or so cases it warms up that long before I throw charges. I’ve found the most helpful thing to do is wipe the entire unit down with a dryer sheet before each use to eliminate static which seems to cause my scale to drift.

I give mine at least 5 to 10 minutes to warm up. I also use a small battery back up unit to cover any voltage/line fluxations.

I leave my Chargemaster on all the time. Never turn it off. My shop area is cooled in summer but not always heated in winter except when I am out there working. Never gets below 45 degrees in there even on really cold day.s

IIRC - my Chargemaster Supreme recommended a 15min warm up and my FX120i indicates a minimum of 30min to warm up.

In the winter, I warm mine up for an hour. In the summer, 30 minutes. It's in an un -heated garage. I've had it a long time and it works great if I keep it clean and static free. i have a little space heater in the winter blowing warm air on my lower body where I size and seat the bullets and the chargemaster on the other side of the garage on a separate outlet.

Thats normal for all high precision scales.

Part of that is to account for moving the scale from the storage location to where you use it.

I haven't noticed much difference if the room temp has been stable. For example. The heater turns on in the morning from 64 to 70. I say 30 min minimum after the house reaches 70. It seems to drift more for at least an hour. I usually try to wait 2 or more.

In the summer when its 115 the room warms and then cools like every 15 minutes. I dont even try anymore until after dark and the temp is more stable in the house. The constant temp changes from the AC cycling so often makes both my scales angry.

I have a CM light. I don't have extra space to leave it on all the time, so I plug it in/turn it on the day before I plan on using it, it stays on overnight and until I'm finished with it. RCBS recommended a warm up period prior to use when I bought it. Not sure I still have the paperwork, I'll have a look around for it.

I have the Lyman automatic. It has a timer on it for a 3min warm up. But, I've found that the first few charges there is some variation. I tested this by weighing an item right after the 3min and then again after 10min. Sometimes there was a tenth change. Sometimes not. So, I wait 10min before weighing things.

I managed a factory where we had some precision scales. They all required warm up and the precision scale had to be warmed up for an hour before use (we kept them plugged in most of the time).

I never turn mine off. I have a pan/funnel and when I go to use it I simply lift it off the scale and it says -61.9 99 times out of 100. If it doesn't, i recalibrate.
