Warming Things Up

I use our convection over to dry mine. Heat to 200 degrees and put them in for 20-30 minutes. I arrange them, neck down, in a metal pan with a paper towel at the bottom.
Yes it does darken the cases a little bit, but I am not making jewelry so don't care if the cases don't shine.
I was considering switching to the air drying units like Cabela's sells. The thing that bothers me about the air dryers is putting the cases on their side. this allows water to settle on one side of the cases interior. When the water evaporates, it leaves behind the dissolved solids and chemicals in the water. This residue concerns me as it is now concentrated in a specific area of the case and could speed up the demise of the case either by direct contact to the metal or through chemical reaction during the firing of the case. A concern because it is taking place from the inside of the case where you won't see the issue until the case fails.
This is why I arrange my cases neck down when drying. Now I may be overly concerned for no reason, but I have seen what these dissolved materials can do to metals. If you doubt this, take a look at how well dried water droplets left behind from washing your car in some areas of the country can eat into your car finish. At least your car finish has a coat of wax that protects it, what protects the metal in your case?

mine go under a 500 watt quartz flood lite for about 10 minutes,,heat lamp on steroids
