Wanting new barrel

Am wanting to get a new barrel installed on my Rem 700 BDL varmint. My gunsmith has a '6mmBR Match' reamer. Should I go ahead with this reamer or??

i guess it all depends on what you want to do with the rifle. If you are looking for a bad ass elk rifle then I would say probably not. If its a match reamer it might have a tight neck so you might have to turn brass, is that what you want to do? you better find out before it cuts a chip.

I have a new 6mm Hart barrel blank ready for chambering, heavy varmint taper. I live not 200 miles from you in middle TN.

Email me direct for more info. I think I will be in the Memphis area mid-July- save shipping.

Bud in TN:

The 6mmBR is a great cartridge. for target or varmints. Very user friendly and great Lapua brass. It is very economical to shoot.

There are many 6mmBR match reamer configurations i.e. neck diameters, and throat length and leade.

Do you plan to reload, turn the necks etc. You can't shoot some factory loads in tight necked chambers.

It depends on the weight bullets you want to shoot. You would want a faster twist for heavier bullets. i.e. 7.75 -8. twist for bullets of 105 -115 grains in weight. 12-14 twist for bullets under 80 grains.

There are some great information on this website that can give you many ideas of what you may want to do.

Your gunsmith should also be able to provide you with many answers to your questions. Learn what your options are.

I had assumed the 'Match' reamer would be at minimum specification for the neck diameter and other features. Also assuming it is for the original Remington design 6mmBR. Sounds as though nothing is certain and my Gunsmith wil have to confirm what it is.
If it is the old standard what problems may it cause? Could I trim the Lapua brass to make it work?
I don't want to turn the necks as from what I have been reading the accuracy will be very good without it. The gun will be used for casual target shooting / playing games. Just want something really, easy to achieve) accurate out to 300yds. May someday go to a local F class 600yd match.
Thanks for the replies.
