W-748 in a .204

Any of you guys use 748 in your .204's with 39gr. Blitzkings?

What about BLC,2) with the same bullet?

ANY POWDER BUT BALL...it will shoot great groups, but it is very temperature sensitive, I used to use it in my 22/250 for the hog matches, IT DROVE ME CRAZY !!! HAD TO have different settigs for every 5 degrees...other than that it shot the best groups...

You might give RE-10X a try. I worked up a load of 25.1 gr. that grouped pretty well. Velocity was 4041 fps. That same load worked well with the 40 gr. Bergers, also.

I have a new savage LRPV 204, and so far it will not shoot.

I have loaded up to 27.0 Rel 10 no luck.

I have tried BLC-2, 748, 2230, rel 10, no cigar.

All powders have been loaded a lot hotter than any of you show, no pressure signs, no repeatable consistent GOOD groups.

I am thinking "for sale"

EdwinD: What bullet are you shooting? My R700 .204 is more bullet sensitive than powder sensitive. Tried the 40 VMax first and could not find a load that would group with any powder tried. Shot two boxes of 40 VMax factory loads still with no success. Was about to give up and rebarrel. Then tried the 39 Sierra and 40 Berger and both shot fine with several different powders, W748, AA2015, etc. Vic

thanks for your response.

I have tried V-MAX 32 & 40 and Sierra 32 and 39, but I have not tried the Bergers 40 or otherwise.

The gun wants to shoot several combinations, BUT it won't!!

I don't have the time or inclination to baby this thang.

Maybe you have a magic load that I could try, but I am really ready to move on.

27.4 grains of H4895, CCI450 primer, RP cases, AND the bullets 0.050" off the lands....for a Savage 12FV.

Edwin have you tried seating the bullets just into the rifling?

I have a 223 barrel for a T/C Encore and seating the bullets out so that they just touch the rifling turned this gun into a gem where before it was a turd.

As always back off your loading by 10% as your pressures will more than likely go up with the bullet seated into the rifling.

Is your Rem 700 .204 a VSSF 2, perchance?

Hornady recommends a jump of .113 of an inch. Try starting at .050 and see what that gets you.

Nope, just a plain ole blue ADL with sporter barrel bought on sale at Gander Mtn for the action. It does wear a H-S Precision stock now instead of the factory tupperware thing. I plan on rebarreling it later as the factory barrel shoots ok, but fouls pretty fast even with moly. Vic
