Since VV is hailed as one of the best powders out there I was wondering if VV N540 is superior to all the other powders associated with the 6mmBR and heavier bullets or is it just another powder to try out ?

N540 is a superb powder for the 6mmBR! It will produce excellent accuracy and a concomitant increase in velocity. You will love it! However, you will also see a noticeable decrease in barrel life due to it's being a double based "nitro infused" powder. But make no mistake, if high performance is what you are after, VV N540 would be hard to beat in the 6mmBR..Since VV is hailed as one of the best powders out there I was wondering if VV N540 is superior to all the other powders associated with the 6mmBR and heavier bullets or is it just another powder to try out ?

4166 is an awesome powder but it does have a very narrow load window. I got some outstanding results in my BR shooting 107 SMK's but it did take longer to dial it in.I'm running IMR4166, but with 95g smk's
good case fill and speed. Don't know how it would work with 105's or such.
HI Bill ,,,,back around 2000 I got my first 8 twist BR,,(has shot 14 twist since 70's) I shot everything known to man in it ,,,got best results with Rx-15 and 540,,,,shot about three pounds (600 rds) of the 540 and ran out of it and was hard to find so I switched to Rx-15 and got 2500 + accurate rds out of that bbl,,,,today 540 is EZ to find so I would say go ahead and use it,,,RogerSince VV is hailed as one of the best powders out there I was wondering if VV N540 is superior to all the other powders associated with the 6mmBR and heavier bullets or is it just another powder to try out ?

When the Berger 108 first came out I got it. It was also right at the time that the Viht powders were just not coming over on the ship. Or at least N540 was not. I used the 108 for a pound or 2 of N540 worth of matches and then all the N540 dried up. A couple years later, once the supply was boosted, I used it in a 6mm Dasher for almost a year. Just incredible! What weight Bullets are you using here??
If memory serves me correctly, I believe my load was 30.3 or 30.4grs of N540 with the 108s seated 7thou INTO the lands. I believe (not positive) that I also used CCI 450 primers. That ought to get you started!I’m shootin 108 Berger, hell I’ll look for some N540 Thx
