Vudoo 17HM2 best 100 yard groups

Last May i ordered a 17HM2 barreled actions from Vudoo , long story short it took almost 4 1/2 months to receive it because they were waiting for 17 barrels from Lothar Walther and it was well worth the wait !

I put a Masterpiece Arms Matrix chassis under it and a 10 oz jewel trigger, last week I took it to the bench to break the barrel in and tune her up and after 20 shots cleaning the barrel every 3 rounds and getting it on paper I shot a couple of groups at 50 yards and it shot in the 2’s then shot two groups at 100 and was doing back flips on the second group.42817812-43B1-467B-A751-E7CDC6DC6EBA.jpeg5CEF22B4-A57B-4E73-941D-0E9D7BF5D854.jpeg5F4DEB2F-0476-46B4-929D-4A3FEE1D87AE.jpeg

2nd 5 shot group at 100 yards , best Rimfire group I’ve shot at 100 yards ! I’m a happy camper !

That’s awesome! Great looking rig! I didn’t know vudoo used lothar barrels. A buddy is running one on his rimx and it shoots lights out!

I think they’re only running Lothars on their 17 barrels , I also have one in 17HMR
and used it all last spring on Rock Chucks and was just tickled with long bombing chucks at 300 yards with it.

The .17 HMRs are a GREAT! concept. I have a hard time acknowledging it because of ammo. It is a rimfire case and I know several guys that have them and sometimes they shoot well, Sometimes they don't. I personally don't own a 17 HMR but overall I can do as well or better with my CZ .22 Hornet.
Again it is the fact that it is a rimfire and you have no input into the loading.
I think it should be said the .22 Hornet is not a very good round (today) mathematically but the fact that it will outdo most (rimfires) calls into play the worth of these great guns.
My Hornet will do my bidding at 150 yards or less at a much lower price than that factory rimfire ammo.

Well I dont have the time or the want to reload anymore , I shoot between 25,000 to 30,000 rounds a spring on Oregon sagerats and rock chucks and diggers squirrels and Rimfire is the only way to go for me.

thats crazy...... thats a lot of ammo
Yes it is , I start hunting around the 1st of February through July 1st , I help out a lot of my farmer and rancher friends , I stay busy bouncing from one property to the next all spring. And yes it’s a big cost at todays prices for rimfire ammo and I dont shoot the cheap stuff for 22LR ammo.1EB2CA85-B0CE-4679-91CD-129B1AC53101.jpeg

At today's prices for components? Primer 10 cents, bullets 20 cents, + powder and brass loss/retirement costs not counting time invested. Vs 20 cents loaded for HM2 and 28 cents loaded for HMR.

All I've shot the last 2 years during my prairie dog hunt is the HMR. 3K in 2021 and 2K in 2022. I've added a HM2 for next year. More fun, more dogs (they stay up much better), and less work.

Well said ! With the HM2 on PD size critter they don’t blow the heck out of them , on our sagerats in the west it pops them good ;-)

I’m putting a Vudoo in 22 Mag together shortly in a sporter weight right now for shooting digger squirrels offhand from my side by side at the ranches. I’ve got a ultra lite MPA chassis for it and tomorrow it goes into the Cerakote shop to get it gold paint job , should be about two weeks or so to have it completed and ready to break in. I’m not a big fan of 22 mag but for the price I got the barreled action for I wasn’t going to pass on it and it completes my collection of all four calibers of Vudoo rifles.

I’m looking forward to you finishing that 22 mag to see how you like it. The 22 mag has always done a kick ass job of blowing up prairie dog size critters. Much more so than the 17 HMR. Im looking forward to your opinion of the 22 mag.

I'm a huge 22Mag fan and have done quite a bit of predator and varmint control with them. The two things I battled early on was ammo quality and twist rate. I've found what I believe to be far better ammo across what's available and settled on my go to barrel specs. After that, it's as accurate as anything I've built.

Hi Mike thanks for chiming in on this thread , I switched off of the 22 magnum years ago I had mostly Anschutz and Coopers and switched to 17 HMR and 17 HM2 when they hit the market. After reading a few threads on the Vudoo 22 mag and with the accuracy of my current Vudoo rifles I decided I couldn't live without one , sure looking forward to seeing how it groups and killing some rock chucks with it next spring.

Cool, which barrel are you using and are you doing the barreling?

It’s one of your specter 18” , I bought a new unfired barreled action from a guy on RFC. Not really the contour I would have ordered the action with or barrel length but I could pass it up. I had an extra ultra light MPA chassis in the shop and thought it would make a nice light varminter. I’ll do a post with range results in a couple of weeks.

Gotcha. When you get it, measure the twist rate if possible and let me know what it is....please.

Will do , I hope it’s a 1in12 ? I should have asked the fella I bought it from but he might not have known. It should be through the background check in a week , right now here in Oregon it’s taking a couple of weeks unfortunately.

Yep, supposed to be a 1:12 and the same bore and groove dims as a .223 centerfire.
