An acquaintance of my GF said the same thing to me.
I replied, you have the right, the same as we do with a constitutional right under the 2nd amendment to purchase firearms. And you have declined to exercise that right . So if the SHTF my doors will be locked ..... and they will not open to let you in.

True story, I had an opportunity to do some fishing in Lake Erie this year for walleye so I needed to get my Pennsylvania fishing license. I have not bought a license for a number of years I spend most of my time shooting. Walked up to the counter and told the lady at the bait shop I needed a fishing license. First words out of her mouth, I need to see a photo ID. First words out of my mouth, how ironic.

show them your photo drivers license, same name, no problemo. If you don't have a DL, most states will issue you a photo ID.

Photo ID to fish but not to vote. Sounds about right.

NewYork offers a NON-Drivers ID
Looks similar to a regular license with photo so in showing it no problems or wondering what it is.
Just for something else NY prints VETERAN on your license if you wish at no charge providing you are a vet.
I mention this because it is one of the very few things NY State does correctly.
