Vortex or Mueller for cheap scope?

Looking to get a cheapish scope for rimfire out to 200 meters. I have a sightron s11 now but the 16x is not enough for the rams at 200M. Both the Mueller 8-32x44 and the Vortex 8-32x50 AO are aproximatly the same price. as far as I can tell the Mueller has side focus and the Vortex has objective focus, Mueller has 40MOA adjustment ( probably not enough for 200M with a 0MOA rail) the Vortex has 70MOA adjustment. Any constructive comments on either would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Jon.

You just said it, 40 minutes of adjustments are not enough, so it leaves you with only one choice ;)
you might want to look at Millett LRS its 6-25x56mm with 35mm tube, it does come with 35mm rings but they a bit high... I use Vortex you mentioned and have no problem keeping 1/2 minute@500 yards.

I've had both. Vortex was a much better scope within the two samples I had. Clearer, better repeatability on turrets..........very good scope for the $$

If you can work out the elevation problems (Burris Signature rings with MOA inserts may help) I think a Weaver or Sightron fixed 36X scope would be a great scope for you with mint pre-owned ones commonly for sale for + - $300. They never seem to loose their value if you ever have to sell them unlike the cheaper scopes and are bulletproof.

Optically it will stay with scopes costing several times the price and leaves nothing on the table (except variable power which degrades optics in the lower priced scopes).

I had both 8x32 Mueller, and Vortex scopes, and can say hands down the Vortex is better. The Mueller had ghost images when the light was above or behind the shooter. I did not like the side focus on the mueller. The Vortex ao adjustement is very stiff and hard to turn. Both loose light, and eye releif as power is turned up. I did not like the Mueller target dot reticle, it is far to thick and heavy IMO, the Vortex fine v plex is not bad, it works for all intended purposes. The Mueller had flip up lens caps, where the Vortex comes with a ill fitting set of caps on a string that doens't have enough strech to put on if you use the sun shade. The Vortex scope track very well, the Mueller I had, had some problems, I sent it back they sent me a new scope, The second one was better but I still found some problems with the turrets. I have the Vortex scope on my 600 yard rifle and it works well, holds zero, tracks perfectly, and the optics are good.

I ordered an 8-32x Mueller from Midway and promptly sent it back. It was truly awful. One semi-budget scope that I'm pretty happy with is a Hawke Sidewinder 30 mil dot from eabco.com

I like Vortex no question asked warranty and they pay for the shipping policy, the Vortex Crossfire 8-32x50 I bought from OpticsPlanet had problem with parallax, it wasn't calibrated correctly, OpticsPlanet refused to do return on it, because I opened the box and got it mounted on my rifle, so they advise me to contact Vortex, anyway I no longer buy anything from them, but Vortex Customer Service was great, they send me shipping label so it went on its way and I got it back within a week with parallax working as it should, but they put few minor scratches on the paint, I guess when they took it apart to do calibration. Now it works great, just wish it was that way right from the box.

i just got my first Vortex, put it on a .223, so far it looks good. first shoot bore sighted at 100 yards it was 1ft high 1 ft left. turned the knobs, lined it up, 2nd shot was in the 10 ring. mine tracks great. its a little bury at 32 power at 1oo yards, but for the money, i think its a good scope.
8-32x50mm by the way

I've had 3 Vortex rifle scopes. Ranging from the cheap Crossfire to a FFP PST. All of the track very accurately, but you get what you pay for in terms of glass and tactile feedback. But even at the cheapest level scopes, you get a lot for what they cost.
