Any new user reports since the first shipment has been in peoples hands for a little bit? I'm interested, but want to hear what users think of this scope. Comparison to NF? Sightron?
I'm really enjoying mine so far. I have one of the first ones in Australia, the bulk shipment arrives in a couple of weeks. So far I have used it at 300, 400 and 500 metres, with 600 planned for this weekend. I have come into the Golden Eagle from having used a Sightron SIII. I have also previously owned a March 5-40x56 and have used friends rifles sporting NF Comps and March 5-50x56 and 10-60x52. Based on my experience, I don't think the Golden Eagle really loses out to any of them. The eye relief is long, which I like and most similar to the SIII and March scopes. I find the eyebox a little more flexible on the Golden Eagle compared to the March scopes and NF. Having said that, I haven't had anything to really complain when using those scopes on occasion, it's just I find I don't have to play around a great deal in getting a good sight picture on the Vortex. Glass...subjective of course and I'm no expert on this stuff, but I find the Vortex to be just as clear as March and NF and clearer than the SIII. I have not had to contend with a great deal of mirage so far, but what I have encountered, I have found the Vortex to resolve through it easier than the Sightron. Can't comment on the March and NF as I used them on clear days, so the picture was just crisp.
Adjustments on the scope work very well, the turrets have a nice positive feel, I do prefer the turrets on March, but that's purely in terms of feel. At the end of the day the scope tracks and I like the 1/8moa adjustments. Coming from the SIII I am used to not having a zero stop, but for what this scope is intended for, you don't need one, same goes for illumination. I'll be grabbing a second Golden Eagle in a fortnight to sum it up.
Reticle choice? Any comments regarding the reticle?
I have the SCR which is just a plain crosshair. First time I have used a plain crosshair and I like it so far. Very simple, no fuss. For the second scope I do intend on getting the ECR-1. I have had floating dot reticles before and do prefer them. For me, it's probably 6 to 1, half a dozen the other. No need for complex reticles for F-class, just something nice and simple which allows you to make out that super centre nice and clearly.
Do you know when more of the ECR-1 reticles will be arriving to the US..?
Hi Johnny - next batch of both reticles should be through testing and ready to ship to customers in about a month.
Best,
Ian
Hi Ray,How does the eye relief compare to say a NF BR?
