Vortex Golden Eagle Scope

The first scopes out of the factory they sent the wrong reticles. they had them switched on the orders from what I am told so if you ordered an even amount no biggie they would just be under the wrong PO on the order sheet. if you ordered say ECR1 you would have got an SCR-1 if it was one of the first scopes sent.

Well mine showed up. The turrets are about the same as a nightforce NXS, size and the feel of the clicks. This was a big one for me, I hate mushy clicks. The glass seems very good. It was mid 90s today and on 60x at 50 yards the image looked as good as my nightforce scopes. I was able to easily read small wrighting on a molded cable box across the yard, unmounted. I put it on this afternoon, but it will be Friday evening before I can try it out. It's going straight to a match so we will see. So far I'm pleased with the feel of all the controls and the glass. image.jpg

That's an interesting base and ring setup you've got there!! Are there no scope base screw holes on the back end?

lol, I knew that was coming. The method's been used for several years now. Bill callee, one of the top rimfire gun smiths came up with it years ago and claims it helps with vibrations and make's no stress on the scope. I never liked the idea, even though several top rimfire shooters mount theirs that way. I figured I'd give it a try to see if there's anything to be gained. I have some kelby bases if I decide to go back to the traditional way. It does make loading a little easier. I don't mount scopes on any other type of rifle this way.

I used mine in the team match at Midwest Palma yesterday. The mirage was heavy. I turned it down to 45 at 900yds, then down to 37 at 1000. It is still a lot better than my SIII.

Well they look very interesting..I had a bad experience with a Viper HS LR 6-24x50FFP XLR MOA..one of the worst scopes I ever owned..a wasted 950.00 dollars..So I don't know if I can bring myself to get on board or not..Hard to beat a Nightforce.. Any way my question is I do not see where they have a zero stop turret or not ?
How many MOA per turret rotation ?

Thats what has me skeptical. I had a Viper PST 6-24x50. Glass was junk on 24X and had to lap/bed scope rings because the slightest misalignment would bind up and freeze the adjustments. Also had a Razor 18-48x65 spotting scope. Picture quality degraded pretty bad on 48X

I have a nib pst 6-24 . Going to give it a try, think I'll like it for the $800.00 I have invested in it. I think I'd like to give one of those Golden Eagles a try if I keep hearing good things about them. Who knows it may replace my N.F.

It has 10 MOA per revolution. StanDard windage turret has less, but they include optional turret wroth the 10 MOA. Very clearly marked turrets. Makes for fast corrections without trying to remember which way is which

Where did you order yours? Anyone have these is stock?

Congratulations! Well what did you think of it overall?
Do they have a zero stop?
It's the best scope I've ever used in competition. I might not take my word for it, though, if I were you as I could be a bit biased.

One of the driving design goals I had for this scope was to spend my cost budget on the things that are most influential to how we perform in competition. This meant concentrating on rock solid tracking and an optical prescription that focused on the ability to resolve mirage for the purpose of more timely decision-making mid-string. A lot of hours over the past 2 years, both on the range and in the test lab, comparing the Golden Eagle to other scopes has resulted in it excelling in those two areas. The cost/benefit of things like a zero-stop and illumination were outweighed by keeping the cost ($1500) more reasonable. I wanted the raw performance of this scope to meet or exceed the best known-distance weight-concious options out there, but at a more accessible price, helping to grow the sport overall and hopefully raise the average level of performance of our fellow competitors.

OK Thank you.

I got mine from Euro optic's. Watch E bay, a lot of dealers sell there. When I saw euro optic put one up for auction I called them and bought one. I'm sure more will show up week by week to different dealers.

I should be able to grab the first one of the first three in Australia tomorrow morning. The clock is ticking...

Well I finally was able to use the vortex in a match. Keep in mind, it's on a rimfire bench rest rifle shot at 50yds. It seemed clear and the mechanics worked well as far as tracking and the side focus. My only complaint is that it doesn't show color very well, which I don't really need for target shooting, but it kind of bugged me. On a blue ARA target, I could not make out any blue, all the Bulls, writing and score rings looked black. I had a couple other shooters look through it and that's what they thought as well. My scores were good and it held POI and I was able to adjust the focus to clear. I took my nightforce 12-42 and sat it on top of my vortex, and turned it down to 42x looking at the same target, There is clearly a difference in the image. My nightforce showes the color but the golden eagle does not. Since I'm not hunting with it I guess it's not that big of deal. Has anyone else that has one noticed this? It's plenty clear, but no color. Factory defect maybe? I don't know.

Got mine mounted up and sighted in over the weekend. This is the first one in Australia, as the other two currently in the country remain with the distributor. The first shipment arrives here in mid-July, so not too far away. I'll be grabbing a second one then. I have a 300 metre shoot lined up for this weekend so I'll have more thoughts to add, but so far I like it. Lightweight, turrets are firm and tactile, eye relief is good and the parallax works well, very easy to focus and obtain a clear sight picture. Magnification ring is firm but positive in its movement. The screw on lens caps and aperture ring are also a nice touch. Glass, aside from sighting in at 50 metres to get a wind zero is nice and clear. I was looking at a white and red target so no problems with colours. Having a peek over my backyard fence showed great detail in tree leaves 150-250 metres away.Vortex Golden Eagle.jpg
