Vortex Golden Eagle Scope

I'll test that next time. Might be soon as Wednesday or next sunday possibly

Don't bother on my behalf any longer. I can't understand how a person can mount a brand new scope on a rifle, then fully fire test it at the range and not even take the few minutes of time to evaluate the full optical quality.....I'll just get a full proper review from my buddy when he gets his Golden Eagle. Thanks anyway. Hope you enjoy it

I guess it's because I am not a professional gear tester and had limited time. Also 60x at 100 yards wouldn't have told me much.
I'd keep waiting on a professional "full" review and don't pre order one. Just sticky with $1000 more costly nightforce

Great review Savageshooter86! Glad it worked out for you. If you ever need anything just let me know I always either have it or know someone that can get it HAHAHA.

Savageshooter, i noticed you mentioned Sightron. Are you talking about the Sightron SIII 10-50x? If so, how does the Vortex glass compare to the high power Sightron on all power levels?

I don't imagine the Vortex will have quite as good glass as the NF Competition scope, but I wonder if the Golden Eagle is worth the extra cost over the big Sightron. Thanks.
The Golden Eagle uses HD (high density) ELD glass so it should be on par with March and NF and it should bury the Sightron as far as clarity. I had a 10-50 Sightron and it didn't even compare with any of my Marches or NF Comps, so out the door it went. My 2 Valdada's even though they don't use ED glass are very clear, but I wish they would make a straight 45 or 50 power instead of only a 36X.

You don't HAVE to look at the 100 yard target with 60X, but theres no reason not to. You can easily turn your rest when done shooting and look off into fields, or mountais, or whatever.

There's other things to look at other than your 100 yard target I'm sure.

Thanks for the input. I know Razor glass is very good and just a slight notch off from the high end stuff, but that makes it well worth the cheaper price point. So if the Golden Eagle compares to Razor glass, I'm sure it will stand tall with NF glass

I'll tell you what. I shoot with a guy who lives in same state that I do who won the IBS 6X score shooter of the year award and was 2nd in the IBS VFS SSOY award who shoots all his 100 yard matches with his March 10-60 cranked to 60X all the time. It works for him, he's shot two 250-25X's at 100 yds that way.

Exactly. Thank you. Most spotting scope optics resolution charts are scrutinized at only 100 yards

I apologize for being a bit of an ass. But folks know everyone is looking for full in depth reviews on the new Golden Eagle. If you're gonna post that you have one and are taking it to the range to test it, please try to be thorough for the benefit of the entire forum community. Shouldnt be a 3 part event. Its like those damn "to be continued" movies. We've all read tons of professional optics reviews in magazines and online over the years so there's no mystery to what type of information readers like to see on new products in order to get a good idea of the quality. I know Savageshooter, isn't a professional optics reviewer, so I may have come off a bit strong. I suppose its due to a habit of my detailed nature. But I do thank him for the info he has given us so far.

I just bought one from euro optic. They have two left in stock. Seems like they are dribbling in slow. Joe bobs sold out in a day. I was looking at a Nightforce competition but I figured I'd try and save $800. Hope it wasn't a mistake.

Does anyone watching this thread know if the Golden Eagle Scopes with the ECR-1 MOA Reticle (hashmarked) have shipped at all or are they only shipping scopes with the SCR-1 MOA Reticle (Fine Crosshair)?

Adrian - Both reticles have started to ship.

Best,
Ian

Honestly, I think we all get too concerned with glass quality. I am guilty as well. Fact is we arent looking for elk in the timber, we are just centering a cross hair on a target. Glass quality is nice but its down the list a ways. Whats important is, does it hold zero? I mean really hold zero. Hopefully some one like Bart can get their hands on one and test it with a scope tester.

I'm with Alex. The quality of the glass and what mega power I'm on doesn't seem to make that much difference. The wind is still gonna get you.

I received the reticle with MOA hash marks last week. However I picked it up directly at Vortex.
