Vortex Golden Eagle Scope

So mine arrived today. First thoughts are this scope seems well built and probably will be worth the cost.

Turrets have very positive feel. Should be not mistaking how many clicks you turned. They are also much bigger than the sightron s3 turrets. The parralax adjustment also seemed to be better than sightron. Very fast to set and smooth.

Glass seems to be very nice. I mounted on rifle to see it briefly and in low light it was very clear and could still see. It was almost dark outside.

Vortex had the scope packaged well and had everything in box.

Hope to go shoot Sunday to test it out. Will post more reviews as I put it to good use

Hi Savageshooter, thanks for sharing your initial thoughts. I've got one on order from B&H Photo - Hoping to see mine by this month, but I'm not holding my breath. Did yours come from a retail shop? Also, what reticle did you go with, because I heard one reticle may be available sooner than the other? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts after a day at the range.

Joe Bob outfitters in Kansas said they had 60 in stock yesterday. I started to order one, but would have to pay the high Kansas tax rate. The extra $140 puts it near a fixed NF completion model. Im hoping they show up at other venders soon because I want to try one.

Savageshooter, i noticed you mentioned Sightron. Are you talking about the Sightron SIII 10-50x? If so, how does the Vortex glass compare to the high power Sightron on all power levels?

I don't imagine the Vortex will have quite as good glass as the NF Competition scope, but I wonder if the Golden Eagle is worth the extra cost over the big Sightron. Thanks.

FWIW - in another shooting forum, a very talented and experienced F-Open shooter beta tested the Golden Eagle. He reported that he had a new NF Competition and turned around and sold it the next day after shooting with the Vortex. According to him, the Golden Eagle was simply that good; glass, turrets, reticle, everything. I strongly tend to trust and believe what this person had to say. Glass quality is somewhat subjective, but I have a couple Vortex products (spotting scopes, not rifle scopes), and the glass is outstanding IMO. So the potential is definitely there for the Golden Eagle. I am also interested in hearing more firsthand reports from new owners of this scope. i have a new build going and am strongly considering putting one of these on it. I'm sure we'll get a lot more good feedback in the next month or two as they become available.

I just mounted mine Friday, but haven't had the time to try it out yet. It is a lot better than my 10-50 SIII. I will give mine a good competition test in 2 weeks at Lodi.

I've shied away from Vortex Razor binoculars and spotters recently because I found Meopta HD was more to my liking. Then i sold my Viper PST scope and picked up some nice Zeiss HD rifle scopes for a good price. Vortex glass is nice, but my eyes prefer the European glass. However, I just recently heard that you can get a sizeable discount with Vortex as a veteran after submitting your DD214. So if I keep hearing great things about the Golden Eagle, I just might have to give Vortex another try.

Don't hear too many people complaining about the glass on the Razor models and the glass on the Golden Eagle is comparable. UK Target Shooter magazine put the Golden Eagle up against the March 10-60x52 and couldn't tell the difference between the glass.

Can't wait for these to hit Australia - if anyone from Vortex is reading, please send the shipment now:)

Please give a heads up if anyone see's them in stock anywhere besides Joe bobs. If they got theirs already surely other venders will get some this week. I'm hopeing to find one as soon as possible.

So far I like this scope. Box tested scope and it passed. Clicked turrets all over the place and returned to zero perfectly on paper. Clicked 5 moa every direction and made perfect box on target.

Parallax removal is better on this scope than Sightron IMO. I also saw less mirage in scope than on my Sightron too. Target appeared clearer. I also belive in my set up this scope has better eye relief too.

So far so good

I didn't specifically test this, but from the range session seemed I always had good sight picture and never fought it. And wasn't really paying 100% attention to my body position and set up. Was just trying to get a quick evaluation of scope.
