Vortex Golden Eagle 15x60

I have never owned a Vortex. I am doing a 308 “fun gun” project, (several of the parts bought right here), and need a good variable Scope.

There is one for sale in the classifieds, at a decent price. I suspect it hasn’t sold because of the simple cross hair reticle.

any thoughts?

For the money it's a good scope. Like the floating dot (ECR-1)
The Sightron SIII 10-50x60 is just as good for a little cheaper.
The GE does get darker quicker than others above 40X
Not horrible, just more noticable.
My 2 cents.

I think they are a great value and the one in the classified has the reticle that I prefer. I have thought about buying it but I just don't need it right now.

I’ve been using one on my 30BR for several years now with zero issues. It tracks good, and the clicks are fairly positive when making scope adjustments between yardages. Mine has been quite repeatable and I’ve grown to really trust this scope.

As others have said, the glass is not as clear as some other brands that cost a good bit more. It is also not as bright. I seldom run the scope over 50 power because image degrades, but the scope is still quite good.

I’ve considered swapping it out for some better glass, but each time that thought pops up in my mind, I default back to if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.

I love mine . It tracks well it is accurate is acrid and very clear I can see 6 mm holes despite my aging eyes at 540 yd.

I have 3 and at one time had 4. No issues, track well. I started with the crosshair, I had no interest in the ECR. Well, I tried an ECR. Liked it, bought another. That tiny dot fits well in some tiny 10 rings in some 300 yd Targets shot at groundhogs matches. By far I think the best buy for the money out there.

I agree with others here, as I have one GE and about 10 NF Comps and a High Master.

My only complaint with the GE, is your eye has to perfectly centered and located properly fore and aft with the eyepiece, Otherwise all you see is black. This seems to be different than the other brands I have.

GE Scope is a great value - I have won 4 or 5 matches with it this year. Very reliable scope.

Agree with all replies above. Compared with some other more expensive scopes the GE is great. It is a little darker at the high end of its magnification range. The turrets are less positive than other more expensive scopes AND one of the most obvious differences is the point that @SG4247 made above about eye alignment to the scope. Other scopes are much more forgiving but you only notice this when you first switch over to this scope. If you use it often, you'll soon forget about it. I too built a less expensive competition rifle using a GE and am convinced that it is a great quality scope.

Have fun with your new project,
Henryrifle

I like my NF BRs slightly better than my GE with ECR. The GE can go to higher power if I take off the aperture. It tracks well and has a good rep for the crosshairs not moving under recoil. It has another inch of eye relief.

I have one. Was my first F-Class scope. It's an incredible value for the cost. I also have a Nightforce comp... so going back to my gun with the Golden Eagle on it leaves some clarity and mirage reading ability to be desired, but it does work and as others have said, many top shooters win big matches with them.

my question would be what kind of shooting will your 308 fun gun be doing? the golden eagle is a good solid scooe but only has around 50 moa of internal elevation adjustment. so you’ll def. need a graduated base to reach out there with a 308. i wished vortex would have put a 34 or 35mm tube on the golden eagle but other than that i agree for the money they are hard to beat.
