Vit Powder 284win

What do you guys think of using N160 or N165 in the 284win I would like to give it a try, Is there any load data out there for it
I have been using 4831SC in my 284win with 180s @ 2920f/sec with no pressure and holds a 1/4moa out to 1000 In my F-class rig
I works good but availability with the 4831sc sucks

We achieved much slower velocities with N160 vs H4831sc...over 100fps lower. But, the N160 loads were VERY accurate. I'd lean towards the N165

I am using 57 grains of Viht N165 in my 284 Win with a Berger 180gr Hybrid giving about 2890 fps. No pressure signs and could go a bit higher with a long drop tube. I started to use Viht instead of my usual 4831SC due to unavailability here in the UK and no complaints with it. 4831SC is starting to be available again but might just stick with Viht. Good shooting.

If you're getting that kind of velocity and accuracy with H4831SC I would urge you to explore every possible outlet and to buy enough powder in one go to see that barrel out.

If you want to get a bit more velocity with a powder that has a burn rate between H4831 and RL-22 try VV N560! I tried it in my first 6.5 x 284 and it spit the 140 Hybrids out at 3120 with GREAT accuracy.. I have ZERO doubt that it would work wonders in a straight .284 with the 180's..

That's screaming right there. ;D

Chappy, the cases went into and came out of the chamber like smooth butter. However, the primer pockets opened up after 3 firings. I dropped the charge and developed a load that was down to 3010f.p.s. but still opened up primer pockets. That's when I went to H4831SC and 2940f.p.s. (or thereabouts).. It worked for the primer pockets BUT it gave me only about 100f.p.s. more than a 6.5 x 47 with the same Hybrids. On my 2nd 6.5 x 284, I went to H1000 and that "fixed" BOTH problems. I got 3030f.p.s. and never opened the primer pockets!

In my TC Venture 6.5-284 I was running Ramshot Magnum through that thing. Amazing accuracy and very cool burning. Was breaking 3,000 FPS but was starting to hit pressure.
