We won't know till it's here..but it's described as similar to H4350..I'm betting it will be something too try.

If it's as "virile" as it's little brother N550, then velocity should be at least like RL-16! If it is as temp stable as 16 and produces as much velocity, it would be one of the most sought after powders! H4350, RL-16 and now N555 should alleviate any of the angst we experience from time to time with shortages of excellent powders directly in that burn rate range! I am very glad it is on it's way! It should work very well with 200-215gr Hybrids...

It works fine in the 300 SAUM with the 200gn Hybrid. If you look at Viht's loads for the 10 or so cartridges it provides data for and compare N550, N555, and N160 maximum loads for the same bullets in each cartridge, N555 maximum values are close to, sometimes marginally exceed those for N160 in cartridges like the 6.5mm Creedmoor; marginally lower for the two largest case cartridges covered - 30-06 and 284 Win. As N160 is faster burning than burn rate charts and tables show, closer to the 4350s than 4831s, this would suggest it will act like H4350 in many applications. It is very much slower burning than N550 with 4 to 5gn higher charges in the Creedmoors and 6.5X55. (N550 is even more misrepresented in burn rate charts than N160.)

It's not. It has the lowest specific energy level of any N500 series powder, same as Viht N140 and N170 in fact at 3,700 J/g, lower than that of N150 never mind 550.

From 62 cm Tikka T3 300WSM factory barrel, 63,5 gr N555, Norma case, 168 TTSX COL 72,4mm, v0 898m/s at 15 degrees celcius. 64gr N555 v0 903 m/s. This I took as my hunting load, accuracy seems to be well under MOA, at least 2/3 at 150m. This powder is like mild Norma MRP, MRP gives about ten meters per second more velocity and less pressure marks. Achieved 960 m/s with both powders but these were too hot loads to my taste.

Pretty sure Norm Harold uses that combination for his long range F class set up. Its a winning combination but you need to do your own load development to validate accuracy and pressure limits.
