Video Illustration of tuning loads to barrel harmonics

Dude, it's because of guys like you that we're spending taxpayer dollars subsidizing frauds like Ela'n Thee Musk, "hydrogen cars" and jousting endlessly at windmills under the flickering light of "solar energy" whilst creeping socialism devours my childrens' inheritance........

There's a phrase in Texas called "I saw the rope".

And you will always fall for any story, any view, just so long as someone'll show you the rope.

I GET IT...... I just disagree, fer real. I don't need to "ask for simpler explanation" LOL!

Here's another sign I keep on my wall.

“Two percent of the people think; three percent of the people think they think; and ninety-five percent of the people would rather die than think.”

― George Bernard Shaw
I apologize. I didn't know you think like a high ranking member of TFES. You must be on their Board of Directors.

By the way, the Brits in England figured out all this stuff over a century ago. They found out why their SMLE 303 target rifles were more accurate at long ranges than medium ones. The math formulas used are the same ones used in computers today by Al Harral and Geoffrey Kolbe.
Mr A. Mallock ("Vibrations of Rifle Barrels", Proceedings of the Royal Society, Vol. 68, page 327, 1901) may not have been the first person to put forward the proposition that a rifle can be "tuned" to generate "positive compensation" at a given range, but it shows that this idea has been around for well over a century and is not a new one.

You can download a copy of Mallock's findings, print it off, wad it up then burn it. You may not be so hostile afterwards.

Dude, George Bernard Shaw was a socialist. You shouldn't bitch about socialism (for no reason in this thread), then quote a famous socialist and say you are going to hang his words on you wall.

Maybe we should leave politics off Accurate Shooter all together.

Can't we simply get back to making fun of Creedmoor?

Two random notes:

1) barrels have a theoretically infinite number of vibration modes, the sum of which determine the barrels whipping motion in three dimensions. It’s not as simple as a sine wave, and depends significantly on things other than barrel dimensions and materials.

2) carbon wrapped barrels are going to be less stiff than a steel barrel of the same contour. That’s just the nature of the wrapping process. Plastic is much, much less stiff than steel, and the carbon is pointing the wrong direction to help much.

Agree, mostly. Barrel dimensions and materials determine their several frequencies. External forces and directions determine their vibration amounts and axes. Each one is a sine wave.

Does your steel barrel know how to read a wind flag? ;)
All i am saying while shooting fclass, i see guys throw everything they can at trying to win fclass, everything is the next best thing. Then they lay down to shoot and reality strikes, they need to work on wind reading. Carbon barrel I am sure is an awesome product but reality is that it would help only the very best shooters which as you know is not a very large group.

Ya got me there :)

Which is why "conservatives" are wont to attribute the quote to Einstein or use a bastardized version of Clemens' stuff (which kinda' makes it more confusing as the "distancing" is pretty much conceptual LOL!)

But I didn't mean it to be "political"........ and Horses For Courses, "credit where credit is due"...... GBS DID say it, therefore I'll credit it to him, properly.

And, to reiterate I'm not bitching about socialism..... I'm bitching about the fact that people don't THINK, I'm bitching about the utter lack of discernment, the complete and total lack of incisive thought and reasonable discourse in most of these "discussions"

I LOVE TO BE PROVEN WRONG!!

But you must do so with REASON not with heartfelt belief in some guy who makes perty memes on a website. I'm dragging electric cars and windmills into the mix NOT for political reasons but simply to illustrate that we, our nation, our people are rapidly losing our ability to make informed decisions.

I WILL FIGHT FOR REASON...ALWAYS

Because it's only this ability to REASON which advances us. I've been here, I've spent the money and observed others spending the money to make guns shoot better. I've been here thru the "moly wars" and thru the "barrel break-in" fad and thru the "LockEeze" fad and thru the "bullets going to sleep" phase and through many iterations of tuners/weights/bloop tubes as this market has refined itself and certain folks have actually worked out the bugs and achieved success..... (When I started messing with tuners back in the late 80's a guy named Art Cocchia told me he had "over 100 tuners in his shop, fore/aft/magnetic/rear/front designs ranging up to 4lb")

I'm in the construction industry. I've watched as literally HUNDREDS of "innovative" tools/ideas/methods have coma and gone. I've watched houses rot to the ground because of implemented policies.... In my county alone I know of hundreds of millions of dollars in lawsuits, settlements and payouts due specifically to "new" and "innovative" things..... things that have FAILED.

In my world it's quite simple.

FACTS count.

Performance over time, real performance.

period.

Well here she is. Just got it today. Still waiting on the Curtis Custom Helix action and AG Composites carbon fiber stock.
