Vibratory Tumbler Media and Polish

If you have brass that is actually dirty, walnut is the best dry option as it is harder and more aggressive than corn. Truly dirty cases (mud for example) need to be wet cleaned and dried.

Corn cob with polish will provide a higher shine. Nu Finish car polish with a little bit of odorless mineral spirits mixed in works very well and the ingredients are commonly available at a lower price than other options.

Half Walnut, Half corn w/IOSSO polish additive = Brilliant Brass.
The IOSSO is a step above the Dillon polish. LDS
Got what looked like once fired brass at the range today, so, it was pretty clean. After one hour in the vibratory tumbler they look great. Thanks

I use medium size corn cob and Dillon polish.
I have a medium sized Midway vibratory and a 5 gallon rotary that I built.
I bought a 50 or 60 pound bag of corn cob at a sandblast supply store about 25 years ago, and it will outlast me. I tried walnut 30 or 40 years ago, and it did not polish as well as corncob.
Put in more cases, and less corncob for better, quicker cleaning. If you look in the vibratory when running, and you see the corncob rolling over with an occasional case showing, you have way too much corncob in the bowl.

Ok, so I have some new corn cob and new walnut shell media on hand. I have ordered Iosso.
How much Iosso should I use to pretreat the media? How much Iosso should I add to each batch of shells?
I am using an 18# Thumler's vibratory tumbler.
It's been a LOOOOOOONG time since I have cleaned any brass, but if memory serves me, I think it was 2-3 caps full of the IOSSO in the DILLON 500 size. Give it plenty of time to mix before adding your brass. If you break up the clumps that form just after adding, it will distribute faster. LDS

I get my media from a welding supply.
Walnut and corn cob. It's WAY cheaper.
It's used for media blasters. Also, don't get treated Walnut media. I do the same as Larry. 50/50 and whatever polish you like, Dillon, nu finish, Losso, just make sure it's Brass safe.

If you have very dirty brass and want to speed up the process, use the household cleaner KABOOM. Soak in the liquid for a few minutes and then RINSE THOROUGHLY. Dry on a cookie sheet at lowest oven temp. Then polish as indicated above. The Kaboom will remove all the powder stains on the neck. LDS
I have sprayed some down with "Awesome" cleaner from the dollar store
They cleaned up almost instantly, even inside

I bought 40 lb blasting corn cob media online that will last a long time. Run 2 Thumblers, one with Flitz and after it’s down run brass in untreated corn cob.
