Velocity Help

Would anyone have an approximate velocity for a .308 win. loaded with 44 grains of Varget,185 Juggernauts,Lapua brass and CCI LR primers. These are loaded to .010 off the lands. Barrel is a 30'' 1-10 twist.

Just a guess but I'd be looking for 2800 fps. But then I don't think I'd put 44GR Varget in that load without a very careful gradual test sequence. 44GR of Varget sounds to me like more than a safe load for that rifle. Just sayin'...........

Work up carefully... about 66,000 kpsa, and 2,700 fps.

Just doing some pressure testing in my new rifle, I got up to 2780 with Varget, but be very careful!

Thanks, I started at 42 and went to 44.5 , it shot really well at 44 grains. The primers were flattened a little.

Not sure of your reloading/shooting experience so forgive me it this is too basic. But by the time your rifle exhibits signs of excessive loads you have usually already passed the safe limit for loading at some previous point. The safest approach is to stop well before those high pressure signs show up or at least back off until they disappear. Oh, I know. There a lots of cowboys who shoot 'em hot and boast about their achievements. ::) That don't make it safe. Pushing load limits for another 50 fps isn't worth the risk.

Thanks 40x. Definitely do not want anything hazardous. I was hoping someone who had a similar barrel and load had some velocity data they would share. The barrel has a long throat. The base of the bullet is even with the shoulder/neck junction when seated. I am going to drag the chronograph out Saturday and see where the the velocity is. I would like to be around 2750.
