If you are looking for a rangefinder that will consistently give a reading
at 1,000 yards plus even in bright sunshine, the Vectronex is what you
have been looking for. Conditions had to be perfect for my Leica 1200
to get a reading in the 1,000 yard area. I can get a reading on trees at
1 mile every try even in bright sunshine.
The Terrapin model is rated to 2400 meters. That is in the worst conditions.
Just after sunset in low light conditions I have got consistent readings
off of trees on distant hills of 4900 yards, almost 3 miles.
I took my Terrapin to Colorado this past September and could not have
been more pleased with it. In this photo which was in very bright conditions
I ranged the two groups of trees. The left group was 2600 yards and the
right group was 2200 yards.
If you are a long range target shooter needing accurate range estimation past 1500
yards the Vectronix is the answer. It is made by a Swiss company that sells
to the U.S. military.
Here is a photo by Voldoc on a visit he made to the Dasher Dome.
As you can see, big performance comes in a small package as the
Vectronex is smaller that Doc's Geovid rangefinder binoculars.
