VarTarg on a tikka action

I was curious if anyone has built a VarTarg on either a tikka t3 or 595 action and if feeds alright. I've seen a lot of VarTarg builds but none on a tikka action. I've also read that feeding can be tricky on repeaters. I've got a new barrel and thought I'd better ask first.

Yeah I had read that story but I've already got the 204 and tactical covered a "few" times now. I was interested in the VarTarg but suppose a 20-222 would work with no issues. Thanks though.

I have a vartarg on a T3 action, if i push it very slowly it will feed.

Good luck on getting it to feed. The short cases seem to have problems on "most" actions unless it's designed for it. Some of the Coopers as well as a few others were set up from the factory to shoot the .221 Fireball so feeding and extraction were taken into consideration from the start.
If it were me, I'd consider single feeding. That way, no issues. Get rid of the ejector assembly and the brass will stay on the bolt head till you pick it off. No chasing brass that way.;)

Remington made the 17 fireball in a repeater a number of years ago and those feed reliably.

Isn't a 20 Vartarg a 221 necked down to 20?

A tikka with the 223 mag might work with some tinkering.

Looks like I'm going to have to try another action then. I know tikka chambered a 222 so a 20-222 should work fine, my gunsmith already has a VarTarg reamer for lapua brass and I doubt he has a 20-222 reamer. Guys I appreciate the replys.

I have a 595 chambered in 20-222 that feeds just fine. I also have a 20 wildcat about half way between a Vartarg and 20-222 in capacity. It too will feed. Anything shorter will not in my experience.

Having spent some time working with the Howa Mini action, at their price point and with it's reliable magazines, it would be a first choice for me for the Vartarg. A hunting buddy built a left handed one on a CZ action that works really well.

F224 you spoke of the Howa mags, I was wondering if you have tried the legacy ammo boost with those mags on the Rem. 700? It seems like a pretty good deal for around $90. Ive not seen one of the new Howa minis in person yet but I do have a CZ.

The VarTarg will not feed reliably out of any action that was originally designed for 223 size cases. The CZ 527, Howa mini, or any action that was originally a 221 or 17 Fireball will work. I built my VarTarg on a 223 action and just put in a single shot follower. Works fine and I usually single load my gopher/prairie dog varmint rifles anyhow. So if you don't mind single loading the rounds, your Tika will work fine.

I have not. Except for my 6.5 Grendel in the Howa mini action, all of my bolt guns are Blaser R93's and R8's. The only viable option for the Grendel was the Howa, custom barrels are available for the Blaser's, but the odd sized bolt head in not economicaly viable.
