Varget Load for 6mm/22-250

I've been shooting a 6mm/.22-.250 competitively for almost five years and have had great success with my rifle and load. I have never tried the Berger VLD's but I have used both the 105 and 108 gr boat tails. I currently shoot the 108's and am very happy with the results. Ok, here's my set up: MAK tube gun, Rem 700 blueprinted short action, 28' Palma taper Krieger .236 bore barrel, Jewel BR trigger, Nightforce 12-42 BR, DD scope. The 108 Berger Boat Tails are set about .005 off the lands with .003 neck tension. I use Nosler brass, which I anneal about every 4- 5 firings), CCI BR-2 primers and anywhere between 29 and 32 grains of Varget powder. At my local club, I shoot F-class on reduced targets with the max score being 600. My best score is 600-55x and I average about 598-46x and I have all my targets to verify any claims. Good luck with your loading.

I'm a little surprised that you guys are using Varget with the heavy bullets in the 6mm/250. I would think that this much loose space would give you ignition problems and wide velocity spreads. I guess it must be o.k. if you are happy with it. I don't shoot competition with my 6mm/250s but I believe in high loading density. I shoot the 107g Sierra with 39.8g of H-4831 and get a little over 3000 fps from a 26' Shilen barrel with 8' twist. I've found that this case, with heavy bullets can be happy with some powders you would think are too slow, like 7828, H-1000, Norma MRP, VV165, etc. I just tried some RL#17 and got very heavy bolt lift at what I thought would be a good starting load. I got more velocity than with the other loads but by the time I tame the load down, I'll be coming up short in the velocity department and I won't have near the loading density I like.
This is a great round with long barrel life and high performance. I've got over 2000 rds through each of my 2 rifles and the 'throat growth' is minimal. Probably on the order of .010'. Your barrels may last longer with the lighter powder charge. Have fun.

Guys...try the Hodgon 100V in the 6mm/250. Let me know what you find. It should fill that case completely. Just fills to the bottom of the neck in the 243,44gr). It works great in the 243 with heavier bullets,88-105gr). Also get great velocity...its worth a look.

I have thought of converting my CZ 550 currently in 22-250 to a 6mm/250. Just seems like a better round...and I have 6mm bullets everywhere

I will definitely try the 100V if I can find some. I still love my 22-250 but the first 6mm/250 I had was when P.O. Ackley re-bored my first 'shot out' 22-250 barrel. Very little loading data in those days and that caused me to buy my first chronograph, an Oehler Model 10 that used 'one shot' screens, just to help me develop loading data.

As far as I can tell, the availability or lack of data hasn't changed! I had my 40XB in .260 Remington rebarreled to 6mm/250.
