VARGET is the wrong choice for .223 load 50-55gr Target Load. what is best choic

My understanding is that for 50-55gr bullets, faster burning powders like Benchmark, H322, 2230 will provide a better fill ratio and burn % => better accuracy.

I want to load 50-55 grain for my bolt cation and AR-15 rifles. What is the best powder choice? There are powders that might be in less demand that I can find available. Is there a preferred powder I should look for to use in target shooting. 50 - 200 yards. I have a Bolt action 1:10 twist and AR rifle 1:8 twist. Lots of choices out there.
The best for me has been VV 133.

Your 1-8 AR will like heavy bullets better. 24.1 of Varget or RL-15 with a 77 gr bullet will work OUTSTANDING. Your bolt gun 28.0 748 with a 50 gr bullet. or 27.0 H335 and a moly 50 gr.
Don't try the H-335

H322 hands down

Suffering from the Varget/ADI2208 famine, I was happy to find some IMR4166 and that worked for my 308. Old wisdom says that powders that shoot in 308 work in 223. Disaster - a case full doesn't even get close! Thankfully, I have enough 08 for this season.

I use IMR 4198 using a Speer 50gr TNT Bullet.
21.0 grains, got it from an Old Lyman Manual, Their accuracy Load, really Knots them up
Shot from an A2 1n9 Twist
Chrono'd 2985 FPS

Nothing else shot in it, Even Bought a replacement Barrel, still sitting on the Shelf.

Even Use them for my Standing & Sitting @ 200 yds for Highpower on Game day, using my 1n8 Match AR.

Did I measure wrong? I set the caliper at 0.224 bullet diameter and then set that as the zero point so for the 0.082 example would actually measure 0.306 or so. It's actually supposed to be a center to center measurement which would be harder to do I think.
You did it right.

Cool!

Looking at your caliper spread and comparing it to the number shown is what throws me off. .082" is just under 3/32 of an inch. Your caliper is spread much wider than that. It is early morning though.

I likeVarget....like everyone said, hard to come by at times; when available $225.00 and up for a keg.

I settled on a “standard” for my 1:8 twist AR and bolt gun shooting 55 grain V-Mag, bulk PSP, etc using TAC; 24.5 to 25.0 grains worked for me.
CHECK THE LOADING DATA.......from Western Powders.

Load for my ar .223 and several friends 223 ar's and bolt guns. 25.5 H335 shoots<.5" . It also meters great in a throw, which is a serious consideration when loading 5K rounds for Pdog huntin!
Is it because it's nearly Easter? You've resurrected a thread that is 6 years old...

I got caught yesterday with answering a post from 2019.
I didn’t go digging for it, but admit I didn’t check the date of the last previous entry either cause I was not expecting anything on the page to be that old.
It appeared on the page with bold print meaning an unread post, and it was on the page, not like I went digging backward to it.
I suspect that something is going on with the algorithm that tracks read and unread posts and it is bringing really old posts to the front cause I have noticed lots of zombie threads the last few weeks.
