V3 Autothrow questions

I've tried looking at posts about the V3 and still have some questions. I purchased a V2 unit a few years ago and love it but I always felt they could have used a better powder throw than the Lee. Is the V3 powder throw better? Is it a rotating drum similar to a Redding, Hornady or RCBS powder throw? I know there are warnings it doesn't work well with magnum powders but how does it handle fine powders? The Lee leaks the fine powders even after trying all of the tricks to tighten it up.

I'm trying to decide whether to get the V3 or get on the list and wait for the V4. The plexiglass mod that a member on the Forum is making look awesome and I will definitely be getting one if I go with the V3. I don't know if it will fit the V4. Hopefully he will make a model for the V4 when it comes out.

I just upgraded mine from the V-2 to the V-3.
I am very happy with the upgrade along with the blue tooth.
the V-2 is not very good vibrates the scale lots.
the upgrade is smooth and you get more consistent charges.

Well, the hopper on the V3 AutoThrow is larger than the small Lee Hopper used on the V2.

I never used the V2 AutoThrow, so can't comment on how well it did or didn't work. But the V3 model seems pretty bulletproof. I've used very fine-grain powders like W296/H-110 through much larger extruded powders and never had it leak or not work exactly as expected.

V3 is a rotating-drum design.

The magic of the AutoThrow is its operation in conjunction with the AutoTrickler, of course.

I understand Adam will be providing a plexiglass lid (for attaching to the scale) for the V4 model. But V4 is still in early beta and I'm guessing it will be late summer or early fall before it goes into production.

Anyone who wants a V3 probably ought to get their order in ASAP. Adam is usually backlogged a couple months on the V3. Once the V4 goes into production, manufacture of the V3 will probably cease. And the backlog on the V4 pre-orders is probably quite a few months already.

Thanks for the reply. I got the Area 419 version and the glass hopper on top really makes it top heavy sitting on the thin plexiglass wind shield. Member JustDreaming makes a heavy duty wind shield that is on my list of things to get.

Jager,
I've had problems with Alliant 300MP, I think it's even finer than H110. My Redding BR3 has trouble with it also. The grains are so small it gets in between the rotor and body and jambs it. I'm worried the V3 will have the same problem.
The V4 looks like a double auger setup similar to the RCBS Match Master.

The plexiglass top housing for the V3 is the best thing I added to mine, I have the complete 419 kit’s on both on my V3’s but the 419 kits are a solid addition however the new plexiglass top pieces I wouldn’t even consider going without now. It makes them pretty much rock solid and their is no flex like the standard tops that come with the V3‘s from Adam.

In that case I'd consider disabling the AutoThrow and just use the AutoTrickler by itself. In V3 it's a simple finger-tap inside the app to toggle the AutoThrow on or off. With V2 you'd probably have to disconnect the cable, or maybe Adam has some other suggestion.

I'm presuming that Alliant 300MP is only being used with small capacity rifle cases, or pistol cases.

Jager,
I have a 300 BO load that uses 19.8 grains. It might take a while with just the Trickler and I'd need to constantly add powder.

I kept the Lee powder throw and just updated the electronics to v3. V4 is coming out so I would wait. Additionally, there wil be a ton of people upgrading to v4 so you may be able to pick up the v3 throw much cheaper.

How do I get a plexiglass top?

Thanks everyone for the info. I think I'll get the V3 electronics, JustDreaming's Plexiglass Mod and put my name on the wait list for the V4.
