usps lost a rifle? ?

Has usps ever lost a rifle fo any one? I ship guns back and forth to Az and Id all the time. I started using usps after ups made me cover a hard case with cardbord.
Went to Az last month for a visit 3 weeks. shipped a 20 br in a hard case made it in 4 days. Shot hade fun with the family. Shiped a rem 700 20br home a mistake was made on the insurance was saposed to be 3k put in as $300. Made it to cal on a truck to leave cal. And has never been seen sence.
So if some one is asked to by a 20 cal rem 700 and cant get a 204 to fit into it!? It is snow camo dipped trued 700 the feds and I am looking for it.

The worst part is I also put a large meat saw in the box with the gun witch is a family arloom that i will never be able to replace. I helped butcher a lot of critters as a child and young man with that saw.

Yes,

Anything of value should be sent "certified mail". From what I understand there is a record of each person who handles the package. Banks send large sums of cash every day, they send it certified mail so it can be tracked.

Remember the post office is merely a gov't union...

It was certified and insured. And yes gov!
There are sticky fingers all over.
I do have another 20br but this was my pride and joy.
Hope it is returned?
I understand the feds will look threw some tapes and see if they can see where it went?
I will keep my fingers crossed.

I went to my local provider to ship a barrel I sold and the buyer had specifically requested USPS. They said FYI, we no longer insure USPS packages because they lose so many. I went to the post office.
I also got a flier from USPS in the mail last week instructing me to include additional markings on any packages I choose to send in the future at specific locations on the package to...help them, and me.

Kevin, I shipped a $3500. shotgun USPS about 10 months ago. The package went MIA about halfway to the destination. No one could tell me where it was. About 2 weeks later, the gun showed up. All OK, no one could tell me what happened. Hopefully you will have a similar experience.

I stop using USPS years ago to ship packages.

I now use UPS and can easily track packages an confirm delivery however I don't ship firearms.

USPS broke two very old Sako stocks I had sold. Both insured, took about 4 months to collect. Read their rules carefully before you send and always keep your receipts.

My favorite gimmick from the USPS is their "tracking."

Postman can dump your package on anyone's doorstep and it will be marked "delivered." I spent an afternoon tracking down a $3000 check that they claimed was "delivered." It certainly was...to a house in a different neighborhood with the same house number, totally different street. Their response was "we're glad YOU found it." Bunch of schmucks. It's FedEx or nothing now.

When I ship a firearm to a smith or the like, I NEVER address to anyone with a "gun or firearm, or alluding to any type of firearms" in the address. Experience Talking>>> It is an invitation for theft, you are telling the handler--Hey guys, there is a firearm in this package!!!!!!!!!,,, Maybe if we put a disclaimer on the outside of the package like, "active bee hive enclosed" :), we would less problems.

USPS suggests this very same thing, pack them WELL and in plain cardboard outer box.

Thanks all!
I am still hoping for the best.
I missed a weekend hunt one time the airline I carried my gun on lost it?? Luggadge gets lost. It was delivered just before I was to head home.
So now I send guns back and forth to Az and home from my self to my self. Most of the time I am there for the signiture required at delivery.
I am still venting and mad. This is just another reminder for me so stay away from citys. Fewer people fewer problems.
I will let you all know if any thing happens.

I used to travel with a hunter that had all of his checked hard gun cases adorned with "Bio-Hazard" emblems. It seemed to work well. Of course that was pre-9/11.

USPS is horrible !! I shipped a $2,0000 amp from CA to NY insured. Six weeks later they couldn't find it and had lost the tracer and claim I had filed. After 8 weeks it showed up on my porch, so effectively I paid ~$150 to mail an amplifier to myself. Next I had a $300 trail camera say "in transit" for 3 weeks, then when I inquire about it they change it to "delivered" 2 weeks ago at 9:32am which is pretty much impossible because it was loaded on the truck at 9:25am and the office is 12 miles away. The mail man comes around at 3-4pm for the last 15 years. So he made a special trip for my camera ?? Multiple visits and calls up the chain was just more wasted time. UPS and Fedx can tell you where your package is to the minute and give you a copy of who signed for it. Matter of fact I would like to see USPS chopped in half with each UPS & Fedx getting half ...I'm sure they could turn a profit.

This is what happens when you send something by "Registered Mail" not certified. Yes it is a very good way to ship firearms.

Todays responce from a Idaho mail inspector.
It was put on a truck to leave Ca. So if it dosent show up by next fri you should call a different inspector from some wear that does more states? What? Then he told me he most likely wont do anything because it is just 1 gun and a meat saw?
So much for our usps.
I will just keep hoping it will show up in the next year or so?
Anyone have a CHEEP rem 700 short. I spent almost 3 years putting this gun together. I own the remmers and tooling so hope it wont take that long to aford the parts again.

Kevin, at this point it is time to call your Senator, Congressman and US Postmaster General and get them involved, given the response you got from the P.O. inspection guy. Probably won't do any good, but maybe a staffer will light a fire under the P.O. inspection people and make them earn their money. Like the rest of us, I hope it works out.

Really glad this turned out well for you........very, very glad.

Similar note/kinda, but no happy ending yet, the gun that set the new 600 yd 5 shot agg of .349" was stolen from Rodney aka "Eggman". Taken from his pickup at a motel.

No matter how they get gone, you feel a real loss.
