Usps insurance

Well, usps finally lost a barreled action. This is the first time they have ever lost anything I have shipped. It was insured for $1500. We submitted the claim with as much evidence and reciepts as possible. Denied, they want to gove me $100. Appeal was aslo denied. We spent $18k in shipping last year. Insurance is almost half of that. I dont see a point in insurance going forward. I will probably start self insuring and just eat this one.

Sorry to hear that. No personal experience, but from what I have read, getting anything for a damaged/lost item is very unlikely. Even if you pack it properly and they damage it, you will be told you didn't adequately package it. I forgo insurance, but spend extra on the packaging, tape, etc as I feel that is where the best benefit it. But they haven't totally lost anything for me.

Just curious, did you send it priority mail or just regular first class?

Well that sucks. I use them a lot, always send items priority, I always insure the full value of the item if it’s more than 100 bucks. To have them completely lose a high dollar item that was insured and then walk away is messed up.

Sorry that happened Alex!

It doesn't matter if you send it Priority or not.
If you look at the fine print on any of their shipping methods
they don't guarantee shipment times or loss. (even overnight, gets there when it gets there)
It's a crap shoot when you send anything through them.
They know if you file a claim it won't get anywhere. Can't fight a faceless government.

I sent a letter to Bart's bullets (check) and it took 2 weeks to deliver. I'm only 2 states away.

Sue them. Their “buffer” is to deny, deny, deny. Most of the insurance companies operate that way. Travel insurance is the worst.
An option for sure. I would start with my US rep and Senator, as mentioned. Also I would start using USPS registered mail.

I would ask for the Postal Inspector ( phone #) for the area you are in. Let them hopefully take a whirl at it. When I was working for the P.O. the last thing any postmaster wanted was to get a visit/telephone call from the postal inspectors. Worth a try.

I seldom buy insurance for the noted reasons. I've had good luck so far, either way. The problem with not insuring is the customer may rightfully feel like you didn't do your part, even at no fault of your own. I'm pretty tight with my post office peeps and I feel sure they'd do as much as possible but are likely limited in what they can do. In Dec of 2019(pandemic), I had just over $10k worth of tuners and product in the mail..when everything seemingly came to a hault, mostly at a few particular distribution centers. Packages didn't move for 6 weeks at some places! Fortunately, customers were very understanding but by the time stuff started finally showing up, they too were getting tired of waiting. Tried to file a claim and they told me they have a pandemic clause and nothing was getting paid. Not sure about now. It all worked out but was a huge hassle for a while and I felt helpless. Shipping is a necessary evil. I despise everything about it but don't have a choice...and they all suck! It's not just usps. It's all of them.

I have had a pkg lost from a seller. Can't remember the carrier but it was bullets. I'd say that's about the worst thing I know of to ship. I'm betting they have contests to see who can throw small, heavy boxes the furthest! It was something like a couple of thousand 30 cal bullets....GONE! Probably swept up and thrown away.

Anybody know if the plandemic is officially over yet?
