I've been a big supporter of the USPS. I've mailed a lot of items over the years. My first problems began when sending out payments for bills on Jan 9,2021. I just recently found that only one has been delivered to my water utility about 1/2 mile away. They received the money 2-5-2021. This was unknown to me as I had a credit balance at all of these places, except McMaster-Carr. I placed an order online Saturday. They emailed my bill and also my bill from last month. Checked my bank statements and their check hasn't cleared.
On January 27th I Priority mailed a Postal MO to warrbuk for a stock. Tracking shows it is still in Texas. He has been very patient about this. I spent 1 1/2 hours yesterday "joining" the USPS to be able to fill out my life's history for them to follow up.
I am mildly upset as of now.

Butch,
I feel your pain. I mailed six checks for utility and insurance bill payments in January. Just regular business return envelopes, four to locations w/i 200 milies. Only four out of six arrived now 25 days later. Interestingly the two lost letters were to Los Angeles region utilities.

I'm sure if they would raise postage rates it would give us better service. On the other hand if they would give them a $15 hour minimum wage you would see no difference ?

We had a interesting P. O. experience last week also.

Jerry Seinfeld can help you with that :)

I've may have heard of him. Does he serve alcohol or good dope?
Hmmm, he is really something about nothing and could be under the influence of either.. just guessing about that though. But he had issues with USPS too and that is probably what made those "influences" a more prominent fixture in his life... still just guessing though. :)

Recurring bills like utilities and credit cards, are paid through my bank. I have been doing this for 20 years or more. Most other bills can be paid electronic transfer. I also use the dreaded PayPal when available. In all these cases payment is fast, sometimes within the same day, and there is no chance of being lost in the mail. I don't trust the Post Office anymore.

I also would never use a postal money order for purchases. If that is the only form of payment for items bought here, then I won't buy them nor will I accept them for payment. Post Offices never have the required cash on hand. Why anyone asks, for payment in this form, is beyond me.

Nick, I've received many postal mo and I deposit them with no problems.

I guess that I need to wiki his name as I have not a clue as to whom he happens to be.

No body works at the post office for minimum wage. They have a very strong union, which may or may not be the problem. While the post office is a supposedly separated private organization from the Federal Government, Their benefit from government rules, which dictates a certain levels of pay. Once you serve the required probation period, you get great benefits, such as retirement. Un;ess caught stealing or tossing mail in the trash, you have a lifetime job.

I guess it all depends on where you live. After several tries here, I even went to the main post office. They did not have enough funds on hand. The item I sold was very costly and I would not send it off until I had the funds safely in hand. I contacted the buyer and he was not a happy camper. This transaction was conducted on another venue and had nothing to do with firearms.

We sent Pass Ports via USPS Flat Rate Priority Envelope to be renewed and reissued (to Philadelphia) . Was suppose to be 1-3 Business days. It left our post office the same day, arrived at the next regional distribution the same day. They appeared to sit in the Regional Distribution site for 10 days ( arrived but not showing they left). We were starting to get nervous as the paper work has our social security info on the paper work not to mention the checks that were written to cover the costs associated with the renewal costs. We were relieved when we saw that they were delivered 11 days later after mailing.

The odd thing was that I had shipped out 2 Priority Flat Rate boxes the same day Michigan to San Antonio and the other Michigan to W. Virginia and they both arrived in the 3 day time window.

Why would you write a check (which you paid for), put it in a envelope (which you paid for), put a stamp on it (which you paid for) and take it to a mailbox? Electronic payments are easy to set up. Get one of your grandchildren to help you. And, the payment delivery is free.

I have been 10 years or better with electronic bill pay and only write one check a month for my water bill that I drop in a "drop-box" at the utility office, everything else is electronic. As far as problems go I have had faster and smoother resolutions with electronic payments because every one is issued a trace number and can be quickly tracked down, where as a paper check is "lost" till it shows up somewhere? You can stop payment and reissue but there is a fee for that and if the original shows up and the utility tries to cash it with a stop payment in effect they get pissed about then and you get another fee.
Not dispute here, to each his own....

I've had good, bad, and indifferent service from USPS, depending on where I was living. Right now, in a northern suburb of Houston, we get barely indifferent service. We only use USPS where necessary. I only mail a check where absolutely necessary, otherwise I prefer to use electronic funds transfer. You can follow your payments online, assuming your bank offers online banking. Dealing with one of the largest banks, I have little problem getting a real human [and for my bank, one that speaks American] on the phone. I seldom need to call as I can resolve most issues online. By the way, I'm an old guy.
Pay your bills in whatever manner you feel most comfortable with. This computer thing is pretty well worked out now and the postal service seems to be going downhill.
