Using Target Bullets on Game....

I didn’t read any of the other replies due to time….

But I haven’t shot anything but target bullets in many years and don’t intend to. Berger Hybrids and a Bart’s Avengers are my go tos.

I do know these are to be avoided at all costs: ELD-M, SMK, Berger Target VLD.

My first choice for targets and hunting is the Berger hybrid, except in 6mm when I usually shoot a 68 or 80 grain Bart.

I have been hunting with ELDs and Bergers for a long time and have no plans on changing.

Shot this guys with a 108gr ELDm this weekend, dropped in his track.
Had to scoop his lungs out

I likely would as well. The 90 grain through a 6br or 243 is something that I’ve thought about for a few years now.

I have heard this but did not have the ideal performance with that bullet. 300 wsm at 60 yards, double lung. Single pencil hole thru the animal. No blood. Granted it died within 50-60 yrds like they all do when shot thru lungs. I dont remember what the insides looked like, i dont think they were the typical vld jelly since it didnt come apart and i would have remembered that. But again it does seem that shot placement is most important. They will work

I rough tuned a .5 moa load for a buddies hunt in Africa.
Tika 30-06 dumped every thing it looked at 1 and done.
Wildebeest 185 juggernaut Tika 06
Gemsbuck 380 yards 143 eldx 6.5cm

Both look dead to me, 1 target bullet 1 hunting

Gel isnt game. I shot a white tail deer back in the 70's with a 168 gr matchking from my 7mm rem mag. and it penciled straight through. I'll never do it again. Cant imagine why anyone would do it with such excellent game bullets out there

We need to stop all game bullet operations immediately!!…. Its painfully obvious there not needed any longer!…. As match bullets perform much better on game and paper!… it’s abundantly clear that hunting bullets are a total waste of lead and copper!….

berger hunting bullets have done this to me several times.

On the berger bullets penciling through you need to make sure the hollow point cavity is open. Run a small drill bit into it by hand to clear it but don't make the hole any bigger.

Sure, but they’re (unlike hybrids) horribly unreliable. Hornady, junk, this is my surprised face…

Hornady's hunting bullets are quite soft. Terrible for hunting big game

I don’t even know why they still make hunting bullets!… there useless!…absolutely unable to kill!…. It’s common knowledge if you want to kill a living breathing animal you need a bthp with a very thin jacket!… a partition bullet would just bounce off!..

Thank God for man bun and the greatest cartridge EVER made!… The only way this animal could have gotten more dead is if you had necked the man bun gun down to .22 cal and ran a tnt hollow point in it!… that would be a true 1720 yard elk cartridge for sure!…
