Using Norma 6Br brass instead of Lapua

Anyone try the Norma? And compare it to the Lapua?

I am thinking about buying my next batch of 6BR brass in the Norma brand. I was incredibly impressed with their 22-250 brass.

What is the neck diameter on your chamber? My Norma brass measures the same as the old gold box Lapua. I am getting 2.69 or 2.695 loaded, pretty tight if you have the blue box chamber of 2.705.

My experience miorrors Daves. I have been shooting Norma from Day one which is is going on about 5 years now I guess. No issues but I have not run my loads hot. Ussualy 29.5gr of Varget shoots Real well in the 6BR Jambing 105VLD's in my rifles. So that is what I have been using.

I would not be afraid of the Norma Stuff. Just my experience anyway.

The Norma brass that I was using ( dont know ages) dont accept same charge as Lapua brass. They loose the pocket at same upper charge that in Lapua is OK. And with these charges, I have to FL size, while with Lapua I just resize the neck. YMMV

I recently bought 100ea. Lupua blue box and 100ea. Norma 6BR. The Norma neck-wall thickness ran from .014" to .0145" with a few thicker & a few thinner. The Lapua held very close to .0125". I ended up turning the Norma to .0125" to give me adequate chamber clearance of loaded round. For me, Norma necks weren't as consistent in thickness as the Lapua blue box. Walls measured w/ tubing Mic. DJ's turned the brass and did a very nice job. Just my experience comparing the two Mfg.'s

At one time, Norma brand was considerably more expensive than Lapua. Now they're roughly the same price.

I had one 6BR barrel that I used Norma brass in. It is a little softer than Lapua but after a few firings it's not noticeable. I normally run fifty pieces of Lapua brass until the barrel quits which is usually around 30-40 firings. I did the same thing with the Norma and had no problems with split necks or loose primer pockets with a fairly hot load of 30.5 gn of Varget and 105 Berger BT.

If I didn't have a stash of the old Lapua I'd seriously consider using the Norma in the 0.272" neck barrels that I have left.

Ditto with some differences in use. I found Norma softer and thickness slightly larger. I also shoot 68 Gr Bart's Ultras FB's being pushed by 30.0 VVN133 @ 100 yds exclusively. I too wouldn't hesitate in buying/using Norma if I couldn't get or ran out of the Lapua brass which gave me 37 reloads (I use 35 casings at a time) before neck cracking on a few casings.

I have 250 new pieces if you're interested. Only reason I'm selling is I got a good deal on a bunch of lapua out of the same lot.
