using lead shot load data for buckshot load?

I can get 0.81 ounces of #2 in the WAA12SL; I am going to load this one.
Test a few first. If recoil is light & they dont sound right, below the speed of sound, may need to load to 1 oz of buck? If possible.
Or increase the powder charge by 1/2 grain* at a time.

When the shot breaks the speed of sound, there is more of a crack heard on firing. Around 1100 fps.

I always wondered to .....

Pressure - shot vs buckshot vs slug.
Hodgdon- 2 3/4 hulls Rem & Win 1oz to 1 1/4 oz.

Only HS-6 powder lists all 3. Most are using 30 to 32 grs of HS-6 powder. Pressures are very close for all types of lead.

The exception is the Lee slug using around 36 grs. The slug has a taper with less bearing surface in contact with the barrel. This may produce less pressure on firing at first? The pure lead slug does expand by the time it exits the barrel. I have loaded & shot a lot of Lee Key Drive 1 oz slugs with HS-6 years ago. Used Lee data.

Its always best to use safe published data, exactly as printed.
Different Component= Different Pressures. Be safe.

Loaded 243winxb recipe above with 12 #2 shot today . Data interpretation is needed, but the good news is that I didn't shoot my chronograph. I found using a chronograph with a shotgun is a lot more interesting than shooting a 9mm with a laser sight.

I measured 1037 on 1200 fps factory loaded birdshot, but this is at 15 feet, not muzzle velocity. Does shot shell velocity really fall off that quickly or is this my chrono? The chrono was accurate when I did 9mm load development and measured factory ammo, at very nearly the same velocity.

I got good data on 2 of 3 reloads, 914 and 1023 fps. So in the ballpark with 1200fps factory load. But the shells did not eject. On the positive side, I am loading and shooting one at a time until I'm sure I have a load that works, so no harm done.

Both the factory and reload had one shell each in the 500+ fps range. Could the chrono be measuring the wad instead of the shot?

Going to load with the next larger bushing and see if I can get the shell to eject. (And, yes, I will make sure that I stay below 18.0 grains in all loads.)

Just saw the most recent posts. Guess I didn't refresh the page before my prior post.

@243winxb, regarding pressure, it's my understanding that lower shot weight produces lower pressure. That's why powder loads often go DOWN with higher shot weight. If you didn't do that, you could blow up your gun (and yourself).

Not sure about the sound. I was pretty focused on not shooting my chrono, and of course I've got earplugs and muffs on. It definitely went bang, but I can't say for certain if it sounded like the factory ammo.
