Use of H4831

Has anyone tried H4831 in a 6.5x47L? If so, would you share your results, good or bad? I'm searching for an alternative powder. I have a Savage 22" barrel with a 1:8 twist that I use Sie 120gr FB with RL-15 which I get very good results with at 200 yards. thanks for your comments

Ron

It (4831) would be W-A-Y too slow. If you are shooting 120 gr Sierra's and are looking for an alternative powder(s), here are a few: 1.) H4895; 2.) Varget; 3.) VV N150; and 4.) VV N540... All these powders will work excellently with 120 class bullets!

RonS I'm going to be giving H4831SC a try in the near future. Keep I'm mind I'm using 139 scenars with a .250 freebore so my 6.5x47L is able to hold a bit more than most. I can pour 42g of h4350 in straight in with a funnel and hear it slosh around it takes 43g too fill the case for me and that is pouring straight in not vibrating the case or slow pour through a long funnel. According to quickload 43.3g of H4831SC produces 58kPSI and 2775fps and 44.2g at max 63kPSI this should be no trouble for me with vibrating the case or slow pour through a long funnel. I'm hoping the slower powder produces slightly better barrel life and I like the idea of a full case.

I been trying H4831 SC with the 152's in my 6.5 xx 47L. Seemed to work ok but haven't done enough work to know if I should switch yet from H4350.

Well, it looks like the consensus is, it ain't gonna work!! My chamber was set up to use 123gr bullets, so I will try the suggestions that ShootDots and captn t made. All I need is some starting points... Thanks guys for your sound advise.

With Varget, N150 and N540 start at 36.0grs and work towards 38.0grs. As you approach 38.0grs watch closely for pressure signs. Somewhere between 37.0 and 38.0 grains, you WILL find a GREAT load. Then do a seating depth test from 7 thousandths IN the lands to 25 thousandths OFF the lands. In that range you will find one that REALLY tightens up! Then lastly, do a primer test. Fed 205, CCI BR-4s and CCI 450s will be the primers of choice. One of those will tighten up the e.s.s to a noticeable degree!
If you are working with H4895, drop 0.75grs and work towards 37.2grs..
