Just received an empty barrel tube. Unfortunately my wife answered the door and didn't know to check it while the driver was here. Doubt it will help to beetch about it.

We lost a 54" x 1 1/2" hyd. cylinder rod for a JD disk. the only one in existence in the world.

I feel your pain. :'(

We don't do ups.

About 2 months ago ups delivered a pac nor 7-08 barrel to me that was rolling on the floor when he drove up. I had to take it because he wouldn't tape it up and the old owner would have really gotten screwed so I took it and ups has interviewed me 3 times and now I am waiting to see if the original guy who seems a stand up guy will give me enough to get it bead blasted with the right grit as my brothers blaster sucks and I don't want to make it look worse.

I've had this happen to me twice. Once from UPS and the other USPS. Each time, the barrel box looked good except for a hole on one end. Now when I ship a barrel, I use a lot of stranded shipping tape and heavily pad the ends.

Canjar set trigger, courtesy of UPS.

How hard do you have to drop a box to pull the pin through the trigger housing?? :o

And yes, they denied the insurance claim, as usual.

I received a set of custom adjustabe struts for one of my cars with a strut rod sticking 12" out of the box. He literally carried it to the door with a piece sticking out.

I hate US and use FedEx whenever possible. Not that I'm suser fond for them either...

A few years ago when I was on a fly fishing kick I ordered a $400 fly rod from Cabela's. Well, I lost track of time and about 3 weeks later realized I hadn't gotten it! I called Cabela's and they researched UPS tracking. Seems it made it to my city and then it just went, "poof".

How in the hell could they deny that? Elmer Fudd can see that's broken! Here I sit with 2 barrels , an action and a jewell trigger on the way. I shouldn't have read this thread!😱😱😱😱😱

There all a pain the butt. Report it, they may run across it, I had a couple milling machine parts that came through the box in a flat rate USPS box. Luckily they fell out at the local post office. I did have my collet chuck disappear for six weeks and recovered from USPS thanks to some pictures of it. I primarily ship UPS, the first thing all of them blame for problems is improper packaging to weasel out of a claim.

If I have a choice on inbound stuff, I don't use UPS. Outbound, USPS priority mail and have only had one problem in the last several years. My last UPS experience, June of this year, was a barrel shipped from Akron, OH to me in DE, scheduled delivery in four days. It first went to Salt Lake City, sat there for a few days (I guess) then back east. Total time was sixteen calendar days. In my estimation, they've gone downhill over the last couple years. On that trigger, it looks like someone tried it and hammered it for removal.

I have had an account with fedex for many years and although I don't like the recent price increases they have always been good about insured claims. I have only had to put in 2 claims over the years and they have paid off quickly without a lot of drama both times.

Fed Ex is much easier to deal with. At one time I had banned the UPS rep from coming in my building. I don't deal with dishonest people. There is a huge difference in how the packages are handled in sorting. No drops in the conveyor systems that Fed Ex uses. With that said, UPS generally has better drivers but Fed Ex runs about 98% on time. UPS about 90%. Fed Ex Air 99.99%

I started using 2x6's or 2x4's to support the ends plus I staple them from the outside, and glue them inside.

On small parts, I cut a slot in 2 pieces of wood and put the part in between them, then box and ship them.

Filing a claim is a joke, so I just learned to be careful when shipping.

JMO, Dennis

I worked a part time job for a few years picking up and delivering freight, it's a real eye opener.
Forklifts picking up pallets without stopping, boxes being thrown indiscriminately, it all has to fit on the truck, all of it. And when you order something it may get loaded and unloaded two or three times before you get it. I've seen so much damaged freight I wonder how these company's make any money.
Now when I receive something damaged I no longer wonder how it happened, I'm fairly certain how.

The story on the barrel. It is a Kreiger that I chambered years ago and had it melonited. I got a 3rd or 4th place in a yardage with it at the Super Shoot. With 5000 rounds through it, it had no alligator and still air gauged like a new one. A fellow that claimed to be a science teacher on BR.Com wanted to show it to his pupils as they had also done some wind flag testing. I shipped it to him and never heard from it again. About a month ago a new customer said he bought some barrels off the forum. He said one used to be mine. Guess what, it was my long lost barrel. I was kinda excited to get it back.
Now you know the rest of the story.

Thanks, Mr. Harvey. Always enjoy your spots. ;)

I always use a tube made with PVC and end cap and a screw end cap and make it long enough that I can put foam padding in both ends I have never had a problem shipping barrels with this method but I haven't shipped that many. Maybe Im just lucky, RW
