UPS STRIKES AGAIN.

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
I bought a new pac-nor off a guy in York ,pa and it showed up rolling around the floor of the truck. The driver didn't know what to do and he calls his stupidvisor and he basically didn't know what to do. The ups store packaged it in a 3 inch tube with less than a square foot of bubble wrap and once it was on the way it punched out damaging the outside of the crown and the barrel was bead blasted, now it has shiny spots all over it and the recoil lug was bouncing around and was found on the floor. I didn't reject it but made the driver note that it was damaged. People complain about the USPS and I have only had 2 out of over 200 packages show up with damage however everything survived. The irony is the ups store packed it for the guy for an extra charge.

I've had UPS deliver an empty barrel box to me with a hole in the end not once, but twice. Lucky for me, the sellers made good both times.

The sellers are required to make any claim against USPS, not the buyer (assuming it was fully insured. For that reason, the seller had to reimburse you. I know because I have gone thru this twice with USPS. It took me 4 months to receive reimbursement. They will having you jumping hoops before they pay, but eventually they will. They will not pay any claim where the protective packing is insufficint. I would advise every seller to photo the entire packing before sealing it up.

Now I see the OP subject is UPS, not USPS. Sorry.

I had UPS deliver a new barreled action to a neighbor's house a few years ago.

Had the tracking number from when the gunsmith'd shipped it a couple of days earlier, was waiting for it ALL DAY LONG at home. Address was clearly marked on the box; big white number on the front door, and mailbox by the road.

When the neighbor (and his buddy) appeared at my driveway later in the afternoon with the box in hand, I was sitting in a chair in the driveway after reading the tracking info about the parcel had been "delivered."

Figured the driver was a sub that day, just didn't give a darn. I knew the regular route guy pretty well, he confirmed that the week after when I asked him WTF?

the problem began with the seller having UPS package the barrel; I doubt UPS knows anything about crowns, barrel threads and bead blasting. All they see a is tubular piece of steel. Did the seller supervise the packaging?

When I got the tracking number and the note he said he had them pack it. My heart sunk.

Pac Nor has the best style box for barrel shipping......

Its a triangular box with ear tabs that fold in...

NEVER just throw these away ! Plain ole round tube style suck...

Even with stapled in caps...WHY would you go to the UPS store

and have them wrap/pack your product for shipping ?

sorry about the bad luck Jon :-[
I am waiting on UPS packages as I type this. I hope mine turns out a bit better.
cheers,
Doc

Because if insured over a certain amount they will "not" pay damages unless and only if they wrap/pack the item. I refuse to use them for that reason.

I waited on a barrel for four months. One day I opened the gate to the shop to see that the barrel was thrown ten ft. over the fence on the concrete in front of the door! >:(

YMMV but I NEVER use a UPS "store". It seems whenever there is a UPS horror story, it involves a UPS franchise "store". If I can't ship it directly from my UPS depot, it goes USPS priority mail. Never had a problem either way.

My UPS store won't even ship a scope. They won't touch anything that is even connected to a bang stick. They said they'd ship a telescope, but not a rifle scope.

PCV pipe shipper here also. Never had any issues. I purchased a Remage barrel from a guy on here and it came in a small barrel tube...inside a larger tube with tons of packing. Hell he could have shipped eggs and they would have been safe. Someone that gives a s*^t when packaging really helps.

I didn't use the ups store as they are jerks in most cases when they realize it has to do with a gun , forget it they send you to a hub . I know how to pack and after shipping literally thousands of packages, I personally have never had someone say my packing was even in question.

UPS STRIKES AGAIN

Why do you say that when in reality it's the schmucks who have been granted a license to use the UPS name, are only interested in MAKING MONEY and could care less about WHAT you're shipping ?

It's not just UPS, but in his case, the UPS Store is a franchised shipper, not the parent company. I received a new Nightforce scope last week by Fed Ex two day, that the box looked so bad II videoed it as well as took pictures to verify how it arrived. FedEx had left it at my front door when I was gone. The Nightforce box was destroyed on one end, and the dvd they include was ruined. Fortunately, the scope was fine, but it was obvious that someone had tried to damage the scope. There are employes out there that are very anti-gun, and will do their best to deal us misery when possible. This is not something new. Years ago, I had a brand new gun case destroyed by an airline when we were returning from an antelope hunt. When I got it off the carousel at the airport, I went straight to the airline claim office in the airport, and they sent replacement cost to me shortly.

1. How did you know it was "rolling around on the floor of the truck" Were you inside the UPS truck?

2. If it was separated from its packaging as you said, how did they know where it was to be delivered?

3. The recoil lug was loose and yet that was delivered with the barrel??

I've packaged and shipped hundreds (may be thousands) of items over the last 40 years with virtually zero loss or damage. Even got a letter back from a customer on a 150 lb furniture kit I packaged and shipped by freight - said it could have been dropped from a plane without damaging it!

Some advice: One solution is to discuss with the seller packaging before buying something. Such stories are legion on the internet.
