UPS Acct

Since UPS went off the deep end and now requires a FFL to have an approved UPS agreement for the transportation of firearms, my local depot won’t accept anything firearms related from me. That’s fine but I’ll be danged if I can figure out who to speak to at UPS to get my account “authorized”. I spent an hour on the phone again, yesterday, with some nice lady I couldn’t understand, from I assume, India and then she just abruptly says, I cannot help you someone will call you back… I am still waiting.

Anyone able to tell me WHO I need to speak to and how to get a hold of them?

I am getting thoroughly annoyed with USPS and FedEx acceptance location isn’t close to me.

Thanks!

Obviously, you need to be an FFL...
Unless you're shipping handguns, makes no sense IMO from both a cost and hassle perspective.

Why are you "thoroughly annoyed with USPS"? I've never had an issue, other than them seemingly throwing shipments across the room (or truck) to see if they survive... but UPS was no better when I used to ship through them before they made the "dedicated account" requirement.

Because every single package sent or to be received via USPS since December has taken like 9+ days to get to destination . I have had rifles just disappear for a week then reappear. A week later than they were supposed to arrive. Routing is jacked up too, with packages being routed way out of the way or to the wrong zip code then back to hub then sit there and then finally to the correct zip code.

I want options. I have a UPS hub about 7 miles from me but I need to have my business acct updated. I always declare what is in the package so that if something is lost or damaged I have less risk of denial of claim. A lot of ppl fly under the radar with pickups etc…

No I have no acct rep. Didn’t know that was a thing.

Thanks for the link.

You could send your rifle by USPS. It has been several since I mailed a rifle for repair or re-stocking, or re-bluing, but didn't have a problem sending my rifles or shotguns by USPS. Like you, UPS or FedEx locations are not in my area. Remember, you can't mail a handgun in for repair without a FFL.

@DR_2297

if you're an FFL and having trouble with the new regs - shoot me a PM and I'll give you all the details as to what you need so when you do get a SBR (small business rep) you'll know and understand the terminology, the reasons why they are doing what they are doing, and how it has worked out since they made the changes in August 2023

First, you will need three accounts.

The first account, is your serial numbered goods account. This is where you will ship your receivers, your lowers, your rifles.

The second account, is your parts account. This is where you'll ship your barrels, your stocks, your triggers, etc. any good that is firearm based but not sterilized.

Your third account is your merchandise account. This is the account that you ship apparel, cups or mugs, or any other non-firearm part.

What’s interesting, is that if you’re not a $500,000 a year shipper it appears that they are starting to offset those accounts to worldwide express. Worldwide express, WWEX, is using all of UPS services but just doing the billing. This is probably why you’re not able to get through right now, as this transfer has just started.

I just got my first account, my parts account, taken over by WWEX without me knowing anything about it. They just called me on the phone, told me this is how it’s gonna be, and now UPS will not even talk to me about my billing.

As far as shipping regulations, it appears that the FFL must be involved in all part shipping in all directions, is a very spotty interpretation and rarely enforced. Anything that you manufacture, or sell as a new line item, must go to an FFL as we all know. However, I know, for a fact, I am still shipping refunds and repairs directly to the end-user if I know that the weapon has already been registered as per my UPS rep on that account

One more thing, insurance, if you want to make your insurance, a little cheaper and a lot more efficient, get yourself a UPS capital account. The UPS capital service is a seamless add-on to your shipping. They’ve got a little bit stricter rules, but if you have a claim they pay it immediately.

Those rules, simply put, are a minimum of 2 inches on all dimensions, and using well known easily obtainable packing goods. These goods include but are not limited to: peanuts, quarter inch bubble wrap, half inch bubble wrap as void fill, shredded corrugated cardboard, foam, and packing paper. Also, get yourself good fiberglass strapping tape.

I think this will cover most of your issues and I will post this in the general thread so anybody else interested can know. Thanks,

Greg.

My buddy was a manager at UPS. If I hadn't known him I would have never gotten a rep to contact me.

His job was so horrible he quit a 250k job there to become a golf pro.

Ship FedEx.

I think all the shipping companies have gotten ridiculous. I called 1-800-GoFedex for an account when I got started, and they wouldn’t even give me an account being a rifle manufacturer.

I don’t know if that temperature has cooled since the election, but FedEx just gave me a hard no

Yes, that is true. They did the same thing to me. Of course, UPS and Fedex are actually owned by the same investment companies. They are effectively one company. Same as Home Depot and Lowes. Coke and Pepsi, etc etc

Fedex has no account requirement for long gun firearms or gun parts.

The future will be one where only OEMS are allowed to use private shipping (also ultimately owned by the same firms). IMHO.

At some point, a chosen generation is going to have to address these massive monopolies that are restricting the trade of anyone that competes with them. Sadly, no one seems to have the will to even acknowledge the fact that antitrust law has been completely abandoned in this country and not only are these monopolies allowed they appear to be encouraged by the public.

"The antitrust laws prohibit conduct by a single firm that unreasonably restrains competition by creating or maintaining monopoly power."

If one company controls commerce across nearly every industry, there is a definite advantage to them eliminating their competition.

I'm not an FFL and have sold many firearms and shipped them all through UPS. I go to Ship-My-Gun for the shipping label. It may cost a little more, but I've had ZERO issues with my shipping.

When Ship-My-Gun sends me the shipping label, they also send a letter with a UPS contact name and phone number in case UPS questions the shipment. I have not had to use the letter so far. If you call Ship-My-Gun, 859-559-4613, and ask for the UPS contact name and number this may help you.

When I take my firearm to UPS for shipping, I never tell them what's in the box and they never ask. Use a PLAIN box with no markings at all of what could be in it.

Inside the box, I always place an Apple Air Tag. When the receiving FFL receives the package, they will see my shipping documents. Among the documents is a self addressed stamped envelope. When it's dropped in the mail, I get my Air Tag back.

So how much does it end up being to ship a rifle cross country?
