Unusual looking bullet holes.

I shot a ladder test today in some very windy conditions. It was a hard left to right wind, at least 15 mph and growing as you can see in the target. This was shot at 300 yards. Notice how on the left side of the bullet holes the target paper is actually torn the opposite direction as the right side. I assume is is due to bullet yaw, but have never seen this. Though you guys would find it interesting. FYI shots 5-8 were, 2843, 2855, 2845, 2845. I'd say thats my node.

i disagree with your selection of group..
you want little vertical, and your selection is nearly all vertical.
8910 is much better

Not bullet yaw.

I know what your saying, there is a node there too and velocity levels out there as well. The problem is I started to see ejector swipes at shot 9. 7,8,9 is pure vertical. I may try another powder.

The target is square to the gun as far as I can tell. I also shot it at 100 yds, those holes appeared normal.

It is your backer board spattering backwards ripping the paper the wrong way.

The backer board is a sheet of 1/2'' thick rubber, so no splattering. Same targets at 100 did not do this.
Rubber? Do you think maybe the bullet bounced back for an instant before deciding to continue of it's original path? ;D
Forgive me - I just couldn't resist the opportunity.

me thinks you are close...
the rubber bouncing back after penetration.....and pops out some paper..

Bullet nosed into the wind...hits the rubber, density of rubber causing bullet to straighten, causes left part of paper hole to push out. (?)

? All I know is I have not seen this before and I have shot with the rubber before. I am interested if it will do this in on a calm day.

Just curious but the petals on the left do they have the bullet mark on the inside or outside? Some look like they only have the bullet mark on the inside.

Cardboard prints well

+1

I'd say it's space between the paper and backing, whether it's rubber or wood. I shoot through cardboard, either a 12 pack box, beer or pop, and stick some orange dots on it.
Another route, Wal mart sells project board, tag board to the older guys, .39 for white, .79 for green. 2'x3', the green is easy to see at 200 & 300 yards, and you can get 20+ 1" dots on one sheet, for 2-300, you can use bigger dots. If your group is low on a dot, crank the scope up 1/2 minute and shoot another one. I usually walk away from mine, but I'm sure you could pull it and reuse one 5 or 6 times to get all the dots shot up.

The marks are only on the insides of the holes.

This is a heavy paper, like construction paper. I dont really care why, just thought it was unusual. I will be out again this weekend. Some thing tells me it wont do this if its not windy like it was.

1/2" rubber backer? I hope you took the Mud Flap off the truck first 8)

Waxed cardboard like from frozen fish shipping boxes works about as good as it gets for a backer, especially if using "Copy Paper" for target material.
