Under Armor drops sponsership

Not to get too philosophical but:

I have grown weary of the mindset that seems to have evolved in the last few years in the social media realm. I call it twitter stoning.

A society that lowers itself to "rule by majority" soon turns into a mob rule. More laws and more regulations are demanded as "errant behaviors" are exhibited. Soon, when someone acts in a manner outside the norm, he is stoned. Or in our case twitter stoned. Everyone else "identifies" as being on the "right" side, thus reinforcing their own righteousness (which is established by being with the majority). This pursuit of self-righteousness pervades the human condition and is now evidenced by "values management" such as being a "green company" or a "socially progressive" organization. We seem to go out of our way to be "more righteous" by all being "more better". And when we can't really do that, because after all, we are all downright sinners, prone to every malady, we jump on the social bandwagon and "shout down" that poor SOB who killed a lion named Cecil or a bear named Poo. And we feel great when 4000 other people just as right as we are join in.

Now why am I waxin g philosophical?

Simply this;

I think we would all do better to spend our time (ok, no one HERE does this stuff I just talked about, but you know what I mean) taking care to actually being righteous, and showing a little grace.

Philosophical blabbering over...

^^^I hope that wasn't for my benefit. All I said was I don't care that they were dumped, and not about to boycott a product on their behalf.
Trust me, other than anti democrat, I'm not anti anything, esp hunting, or guns.

Nope, not directed at ya Milo

I find myself in the camp of supporting each other in our various sporting/shooting/hunting/trapping/fishing activities. These activities, which involve "weapons", and various implements of death, are universally despised by the type of folks who consider themselves more "evolved" and morally superior to we ruffians; and our beloved activities are in danger from them.

Awhile back I posted negatively about a friend of one of our fellows here after his kill of a pronghorn at an incredible distance. I now regret that. He did what I have neither the skill, equipment, or dedication to do, and by all accounts did it well. Not much different than this hunter with the spear.

I'm an avid killer and eater of critters and fish, and frankly if someone wants to wrestle a bear down and break it's neck with a full nelson, I'mawanna watch. I do think though, that making a spectacle of yourself by dancing around like white-trash who just won the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes is awkward and ugly.

As far as Underarmor goes, I'm too cheap to buy it, and there's plenty of alternatives. jd

I've never used their product and after this I never will . if ya'll do as we did in the old days when I was a teamster . every month at the union meeting there would be a list of products listed that were black balled . we just quit buying the product . don't know how effective it was but we did it anyway .

It may be interesting to see how 4000 signatures on a petition stack up against 40 or even 400 thousand active users/purchasers who happen to be hunters. jd

Let's hear from someone who's had a bad experience with Berger bullets, we'll judge our solidarity as a group based off of that one.

advertising, social media.. that world is HEAVY left wing liberal. If a conservative signs a sponsorship that means they have to post and live in that world they have to play by there rules or they will get thrown out. It's not right or moral by everyone's standards, but that is part of the Job.
I want to know how many still use paypal - anti gun
Who still shops at Walmart - No conceal carry
there are lots of examples that we don't boycott because we like them. UA is just easy to change to a different brand.

Who cares?

Got that right! If we worried about every business who doesn't support hunting or shooting guns, we wouldn't be using our time wisely, not be mention we are a minority of customers who buy their products. I think I've bought exactly two of their shirts since they've been in business and those were shirts that they had made up to support the Chris Kyle Foundation.

I've read every post thus far, and agree in part with most of them.
That said, actions have consequences. If the Bomar's are a representative of a company, then the are an image of that company they associated with. It's not that the bear was killed, nor how it was killed or even the antics after the fact.
The Bomar's should have run this through the proper UA channels prior to releasing the footage since it was not filmed or produced by UA staff under UA control.
Just my thoughts,
Lloyd

When you take sponsorship $$$, that comes with an obligation to whomever gave it.
Not much recourse to b!tch against, when you're the b!tch who took their $$$ in the first place...

Shame that the hunting industry has become just another market share for big business like UA to exploit. But, this is our US of A now, it is what it is. We're little more than consumers to be solicited. It this case, it backfired and pissed off two very different target markets at the same time. All we're seeing now is damage control from the fallout, with UA deferring to the larger of the two. No surprise there???

Personally, I got no problem with someone killing critters with a gun, bow, spear, or a dang screwdriver for that matter. But when you're doing it to make a buck, it might behoove one to make themselves 100% aware of potential repercussions of their kills & conduct their hunts, accordingly. As 1shot mentioned above, looks like a lapse in judgment turned south for all involved...

This is part of the problem. Just because you don't care about the people and their bear hunt and loosing their sponsor because of anti hunter. We all have to stick together to support our rights.
I see this all the time. Hunters don't give a damn about us shooters wanting to use a m1 garand to shoot a match and shooters could care less about a hunter wanting to take a mountain lion in New Mexico. So neither of them support each other which is about supporting our rights. WE ALL NEED TO STICK TOGETHER TO PROTECT OUR RIGHTS.

You are very correct. The libs aren't going after hunters, or target shooters or collectors. They are going after all firearms, just as surely as I am typing this comment. If we don't stick together as firearm supporters and 2nd Amendment supporters we will lose. As for Under Armor, it's their money and they can pull the contract if they want. It's the same as an anti-endorsement in effect. As a free American I can choose what products to buy and I don't support anti-2nd amendment companies. Let's stick together and beat the lib-a-Natzi's.

Yes we do need to stick together but we just lack the ability. There are the guys who just cannot stand the guys who need to empty 30 rds at 12 feet and the list goes on.

Good thread. My two cents: I don't have a problem with his method. He's probably practiced heavily but with a sponsor who's obviously feeding his wife large amounts of cash, that was a mistake putting it on the internet. The anti-s are using social media, mass media and the web to vilify all gun owners and hunters and what are some of us doing? Giving them ammunition to shoot back at us. Shut off the camera, then dance around like a loon. It's that easy.

I see a lot of this here ....

Thanks to those that got the point. We have to stick together. Those that don't we can leave the buzzards to pick at.
snert's post bears merit, I am new here and brought up a controversial subject apparently. Other forums have been very supportive. I am surprised at the amount of " whatever" attitude to this subject. As I said before, I have concessions about the fellow posting without checking first, but I have been in that " we support you, until...." corporate environment. I chose to leave it, make less money, have no benefits and lower my BP by 30 points.
Hope those of you that don't give a crap remember this post when you can't hunt the King's game.
At some point, we will all be poachers.
