Two 20 Practical setups but same ammo???

Already have a 20 Practical in an AR but I am building a Savage on a 20 Practical as well. Would it be possible to use the same ammo for both without sacrificing much accuracy?? Is there anything I can do to the Savage that would help when I headspace it?? Going to use it on Prairie Dogs.

If the chamber specs are the same which I will assume ...then you should be able to shoot
the same ammo in either rifle. In the AR they will of course have to fit the magazine. Remember
though every barrel will be different and the same ammo might not perform the same in any given
barrel. If your reloading then you should work up your loads for each barrel.

I would think that if you are FL sizing, it would work. As far as accuracy...Who knows?!

If made with same barrel, same twist, same reamer, and same gunsmith, headspaced the same, same FL sizing die, then...'maybe'. Just have to shoot it and see. Even with everything the same, I still wouldnt bet any amount of money on a prediction like that.

You can always revisit load testing to find a recipe that both rifles like. Hopefully everything works out and the bolt gun ends up liking the same ammo

I ran the same load my AR15 & Savage 1/10"tw 20P builds, 24" Savage was faster by 170 fps, vs the 20" AR15 bbl.
My COL was for the AR15 mag at 2.250", that way I didn't have to worry about the rounds not fitting one, but the other. Both shot small groups, with the bolt being a bit tighter.

A lot of this comes down to the reamer-handling method used by you or your gunsmith.

There are a few ways to get the reamer to cut the chamber diameter to exact reamer size
and many ways to cut the diameter larger than reamer size.

Using the same reamer is, in itself, no guarantee that the chambers will be close enough
to identical to interchange fired brass.

There is/was a lot of info on this posted on BRC. If you don't do your own work, I'd suggest
that you gain an understanding of this process and then look for a smith that has the ability
to follow these methods.

Maybe Butch will chime in and make it simple for you.

I do with no issue. Accuracy can be a different challenge. But just replacing a barrel can create the same challenge.
