Twist rate for .243

Can anyone tell me the twist rate for the Remington 700 SPS Varmint barrel? I've tried the Remingtom website but it's acting weird and I can't pull up that information.
Thanks if you can help.

I recomend 1:7.5, and 1:8 if you are going to shoot the high BC 6mm bullets 90-108 grains.

If you are going to shoot varmints with bullets weighing 70 grains or less I would shoot a 1:14.

Thanks guys. I thought 1-9.25 or 9.125 but was unsure. As far as I have found, that's about as fast as anybody makes in a factory tube.
RS, my plans are to work up loads in 70, 80, and 95 grain weights. Lots of info out there that the 95 gr will work fine in the 9.125/9.250 twist. Have you found otherwise?

I have the 700 SPS 26" Varmint barrel in .243.
I have been trying all the factory loads as I have not yet gotten a reloader.

I found that I have a consistent sub M.O.A. at 100yds with the Federal PowerShok 100gr Softpoints, which used to be available at Walmart locally for $14.76!
I tried the 95gr Fusion, the Hornady 58gr V-Max, Federal PowerShok 80gr, but my barrel at 1 twist per 9.125" seems to prefer the 100gr Speer Grand Slam bullet that Federal is reported to be using in their PowerShok loads.

I have someone loading some 105 A-Max for me and will give a report as I hope that they will give me good accuracy.

Hope this helps
Mike

My Rem 700BDL likes the Berger 105VLD's.I have only used it out to about 240 yds.It was a head shot on a woodchuck so I can't talk about expansion.

I would think any 95 grain match or otherwise would obliterate the carcass. They are not made for hunting as they will blow up and destroy the hide.

Have shot several coyotes with the 70grSMK in 243. Have not had a problem with hide damage. Have shot a few deer with it. Just because a bullet is marketed as target/match doesn't mean it can't function well in a hunting situation. SMK's in various cals have done very well in hunting roles.

How'd those 105 Amax bullets shoot from your SPS ?

Rugers are a 1/9 twist.

Sierra has a new 95 grain Tipped match king I'm shooting out of my 243 now. They're totally devastating on varmints and accurate on paper. I have a 1:8 twist barrel though, so I don't think they would work with your barrel. With the barrel you have, the 87 grain Vmax is a good choice.
