Twist question for 7mm

+2

1x9 will do everything you need in a .284.

I'm inclined to agree, if only from my initial foray into 7's with the one I built & campaigned this year.

My choice of a 1:8.5 for my next barrel (fitted to a different action but with the exact same chambering) is to explore a velocity spectrum below where I am now, whilst keeping with Berger's 185 Hybrid.

If you plan to shoot different bullets I would go with a 1-8" twist to cover all of your bases. You can never have too much twist IMO. More spin keeps them stable longer.

I am looking at a 1 in 8.3 twist for the 195 @ 3100 in a 28 Nosler, but this is a completely different animal.....

Phil.

You won't catch me shooting in weather cold enough to compromise bullet stability. At 70, I feel as old as dirt, and as fragile as thin glass.

Greg

Hell you've got at least another 30 in you. I shoot with an 80 year old that's like a 40 year old.

150-180 grain bullets are ideal in a 9 twist 284. Match or hunting bullets will shoot very well from it. Very forgiving with a variety powders. 8-8.5 will work too but will be a little less forgiving and need fine tuning with certain bullets in that group.
