I learned a great deal from them, but the biggest lesson I learned was: don’t ever think you know what you’re doing when it comes to coyotes. These guys both make a living killing coyotes, and both said, “Don’t ever think you know what a coyote is thinking or doing, and don’t ever think you know enough.” Coyotes always adapt and get smarter—that’s what they do.

Coyotes are a creature of habit they can't racialize like a human. They learn from what they encounter from day to day. They don't know what a gun is or a bullet or even someone walking around. As for human walking around, it can be a threat but depends on what a coyote's threat level is. When it comes to calling coyotes have a mindset just like humans. With a human to change his mind set you talk to him about something he likes or takes interest in. Same with coyote, you feed it a sound that clicks in its head and changes it mind set. Can be a food sound or even just a friendly howl but depends on the coyote as each is different as to how or what it was exposed to as it grew up. You have a coyote that's been shot at from the road many times, so they perceive a stopped truck as a threat which it was conditioned to. Coyotes 101.......

as for the different colored fox pelts yep they mine. Reason for varis colors was because they escaped from a fur farm. As for coyote pelts just another variation in color patterns due to their genetic makeup and you see more of this from the Eastern strain of coyotes.

So - tell us more of your exploits. Do you hunt that private reserve that you mentioned? It was implied that is where you shoot a lot of coyotes. Do you mostly shoot with your .17 Hornet or the .22 rimfire? What is the average distance you shoot at? So, you live in Ohio and also spend a lot of time at the reserve?
