Turning case necks with power screwdriver?

I use the Sinclair case holder in an el-cheapo Black and Decker power screwdriver from Wally World. I have two so if one starts to slow down i just switch.

I find that the steel cutter in my Sinclair turner stays sharp longer if I use a very light application of Imperial die wax on the case neck, and a bit on the turning mandrel reduces heating and lets the case turn smoothly.

I can't imagin that you could possably turn enough brass to see an extreamly hard cutting tool getting dull turning soft brass casses. Water is also a lubricant, and it helps keep the cutter cool.

Another option is to fill a bowl with water and ice and cover it with saran wrap.
Lay the turner on the plastic wrap between cases.
Keeps it cool and dry.

Wet is good...H20 acts like a lube....(if you think you need lube)....and h20 cleans up way easier than oil based lube.
I don't think you need lube. I DO think it is important to keep the tool cool. I do know that the brass turns way easier on the mandrel when it is cool. So...I use ice water w/o the plastic wrap.

when you are neck turning with a power screwdriver, do you hold both in your hands, ? hold the screwdriver in a vice and hold the cutter in your hand--- hold the screwdriver in your hand and the cutter in a vice. how do you do it?

You don't want the cutter solid mounted, as you need to kind of wobble a bit with the case as it spins. But you could put the screwdriver in a vice or mount it some other way.

I have Ryobi power screwdrivers that turn at a smooth 180rps and have served me patiently for the last few years. When I find something that works well, and it's not too expensive, I usually buy more than one unit before it vanishes.
