Turned Necks For First Time

I have turned the necks for my 22-250 for the first time. I used Lapua brass and they came out with a neck thickness of .013. Is this OK or too thin? Thanks for the help.

It will all depend on you chamber neck ID. If it's on a factory chamber the neck will measure .255 and you want .002-.003 clearance . If you do the math your neck will measure .250. Is this a factory or custom chamber?

It really depends on why you are turning the necks.
There are basically 2 reasons to turn necks.
Reason 1: to make the neck consistent thickness all the way around. Thereby, improving consistency of neck tension and wall thickness. Helps improve bullet runout as well.
Reason 2: if you have a custom tight neck chamber in your rifle.
I have 2 custom rifles, but both have standard SAAMI chambers. I only turn necks when the brass has more than .001 variance in neck wall thickness. Then I turn them back to .0125.
You turned necks to .013. That should be good if it resolves your issue.

I have a Lilja barrel but the chamber is cut to SAAMI specs. The new brass had a varience around the neck of slightly over.002. Yesterday I shot 8 5 shot groups at 100 yds. Tightest was .20 and the largest was .53 with a average of the 8 .39. I thought that was ok for a Rem 700. I also have a Jewel trigger.

That’s a extremely nice shooting rifle!... lately we have guys that there Varmint rifle will shoo ALL DAY LONG in the .1s and on a bad day .2s!.... you have very realistic numbers there. Good luck sir

Those numbers that I gave for my groups are real. They include fliers, if they didn't my groups would be much smaller. I use a caliper to measure outside the 2 farthest holes of each group and deduct .224 to get the center to center measurement. No cheating to make my groups more impressive, I would only be fooling myself.

Just to add to what PopCharlie said, if you are using bushing type sizing dies, turning the necks true will help give the consistent neck tension and loaded round concentricity you are trying to improve, and also make it possible to eliminate the expander.
