Ai necks turned

I have 100 new pieces of Lapa brass in 22-250 that I have already turned the necks. In the meantime I got rid of my 22-250 and replaced it with a 22-250ai. Can I still fire for this brass or will the neck turning create a problem as the neck is shorter on the Ai. This is new never fired brass.

Re: SC necks turned

It all depends... If you had (old 22-250) a "no turn" neck and all you did is shave off about 1/2 thousandths, you will be fine. On the other hand, if you had a "turn / tight neck" and had to turn off more than 1 thousandths, I would be hesitant.. Right at the neck shoulder junction is where you are going to be "pulling out' the brass as the A.I. forms. That is also where a large portion of the pressure is contained because of the cartridge being a bottleneck instead of a straight wall, like a .458Win.. Add to that the fact it is going down somewhat more due to the angle of the shoulder and there is a lot of pressure there. However, it is doubtful that 1/2K to 3/4K of "shaving of the neck" would ill effect that>>> more than that and I would get new brass..

JVON -

Howdy !

FWIW:
You'll need to go w/ neck turn cutter that has a " sharper " approach angle to it, for use when you do " turn " your AI brass.
That is, unless of course.... your neck turner already has a sharp-shoulder cutter installed.

Re: SC necks turned

I turn my 6BR brass to .010 for a .266 neck and turn to within a 1/16 of the shoulder. When I fireform the turned part goes halfway down the shoulder. You can easily see it after formed and it doesn't hurt nothing. I don't have to worry about a donut. Matt
