I did a very informal tube/no-tube test today. Nothing scientific but it was good practice and a lot of fun.
After playing around with tuner settings with the tube removed I shot 20 rounds into a test target. Then put the tube on, and after adjusting the zero I shot 25 rounds at the same tuner setting. This was with my SK PMS practice ammo which occasionally throws a what the heck flyer, I removed one shot from the composite of the bare tuner test because it went off into left field for no apparent reason so only 19 rounds will show in its composite
84F, sunny. 3 - 5 mph with occasional gusts up to 8 or 9. Mild mirage.
The target without the tuner has slightly better numbers even though I seemed to make better wind calls on the target with the tube on and had more X's. Although I had about 3-4 really bad wind calls which pushed my group out a couple of tenths. I don't think there is anything here that cannot be explained by bad wind calls, the vertical was very close.
I plan on trying the same thing again but with the addition of bringing the tuner in a few clicks to compensate for the extra weight out front. I also want to explore several other nodes on the tuner, there looked to be several promising settings on the rough workup. This was just the first
I have several bricks of this lot of ammo so I plan of tracking my progress over the summer, trying this and that on the tuner and tube, and see what happens. Should be a lot of fun and I might even learn something
