Your guess is as good as mine. All I know is the story I was told.Bolt handle modified for easier left handed use?

^^^^^^^Sometimes, there's just no words....![]()
Sure hope you didn't pay a lot for that rig. That thing looks bubba up'ed enough I don't think I would shoot it.
Wanna hear a funny jokeThat bolt is how rules get added.![]()
And holds a national 200 yard sitting rapid fire record, shot left handed, loading with stripper clips, in a right bolt rifle.Wanna hear a funny joke
Olympian and top AMU shooter Gary Anderson, the guy who tge air rifle range is named for at Perry , has a rifle on display with a similar bolt handle , so he could shoot a right handed bolt gun in xtc left handed and cycle the bolt in rapids
NoThis one? One of the good guys for sure, did a lot for the CMP during his tenure.

Here is a link to a left handed Anschutz bolt handle adaptor that is very similar to the bolt handle design in your picture. I suspect that this handle was made for the same purpose of allowing a left handed shooter to operate the bolt faster and easier.Next up on this gun is "fixing" the bolt handle. Apparently, it was the test platform for an old XTC shooter and he wanted faster cycling in position, so he made this ridiculous bolt handle so he could just "knife hand" straight up and cycle it. At least that's the theory that was explained to me.
It appears the original handle was cut and this thing welded on, by the discoloration above the base.
I'm trying to decide between cut, D&T for a stud and put new handle on that way. OR, heat and beat this thing straight enough to cut down and thread for a knob. OR, a combination of the two.

Without having it in front of me to inspect I would say time to weld up the hole the extractor pivots in. It may be too large allowing extractor to travel backwards instead of snapping over the rim. I agree it doesn't look like a Sako part but may have been "fitted, altered etc" . Really need to see it first. I have fitted an M16 extractor to a 788 Bolt that had been butchered. It required a lot of time, further modification to the Bolt and imagination to do it properly and I charged accordingly. I don't suggest it unless the Bolt's been wrecked. David Badgersmith Gunworks "Vicious Precision"TMI have acquired a rem 788 that has some unique attributes (i.e. customized). Its got a 0 round 6br barrel on it, single shot. My current problem is its sako extractor. It's not snapping over the rim, just pushing the extractor straight back. I have limited first hand experience with this style extractor, and the ones I do have just work.
What are my options for tuning this? Just a couple basic pics.
Obviously, the trailing edge of the extractor is a bit rough, I can clean that up. Do I need to change the angle of the face? Fit seems a little sloppy to me.

Better get after it deer season is just around the cornerIn the video I posted, root cause was a rough finish on the ramp of the extractor. Brass doesn't like to slide on rough steel. Its been polished and functions quite smoothly now. I suspect it is a "shop made" sako style extractor, not a genuine sako piece, or even a commercial equivalent to one. However, it seems to fit, extract, and function well enough for now. I'm planning on cutting and welding the bolt handle in the next month (between other projects) so do expect to see an update on this soon.
Shoot, you know me, I only need a week and a case of good beer to get sh!t done! Lol! (The case of beer might not last a week...)Better get after it deer season is just around the corner
